Quick buy a Model S?

'Hard to guess. If I was in need of an S (and didn't have one) then likely buy an older model as an interim and stick an order in for the new one complete with fsd in the vain hope that they might be getting somewhere with it by then - and have the option to cancel. My S will be coming to end of warranty 2022 but the depreciation on them is huge, can't say I care for the new interior. Plaid insurance will be daft. Unless alternatives to the supercharge network get practical I can see me going back to a secondhand ICE that local garage can fix...

From the interior shots I've seen of the new one, I'd prefer an old one. I think the current 17" portrait panel is lovely.

Me too. No doubt some may say it's confirmation bias but I am so pleased I jumped out of my '17 S75D for an S LR in Sept last year. :)

I knew there was a risk that the refresh would arrive and I would suffer serious buyers remorse, but my S75D was approaching end of warranty on mileage, the PCP was due this March and I was over contract mileage. I sold it via a well respect EV specialist on the South Coast.

The pricing and finance on the new one was the best it had been for nearly 2 years (I watched it with nerd like attentiveness) and I really didn't want the landscape screen. I pulled the trigger in May with trepidation.

What I absolutely didn't think was that there'd be a years wait before the refresh would be available - that's a killer . And that's a year in Tesla time!

Indeed, I still remember looking at the planned Supercharger at "Flint UK" (being my nearest potential Supercharger) when I first acquired a Tesla and being a tad excited that it was "Coming Soon in 2019". Lesson learned. To be fair progress (appears to) be being made. Having just checked it now says "Target Opening in Q1 2021". They're teasing me.

Why not just keep the car longterm? Our X warranty will be ending this year, am actually quite comfortable running it without warranty. Its taken Tesla 3 years to sort out all stuff PDI should have picked up, but last 12 months the reliability has been fine.

I really struggle to see why anyone would pick a new S over a Taycan. It will be fascinating to see how S sales go in 2021 versus the Taycan, I suspect aside from Tesla fanatics most people in the £80k+ saloon market wouldn't even give a Tesla a second look - I know I wouldn't.

But I cannot see much reason to rush into selling up a S or X at this stage. With the new crazy prices used cars actually offer very good 'value'. And now that Tesla is been made to sort out the MCU1 failures longterm ownership is much less stressful.

Porsche is getting ready to release the Macan EV, and if they keep the pricing level 'sensible' so closer to £60k versus £100k, I will find it very hard not to seriously look into one. Either way in the 'premium' end of the market Porsche is going to be hard to look past.

The S is a great car to drive...BUT
I bought it foolishly believing some of the hype about automation. It's not a cheap car and while I'm privileged to be able to afford it I could have indulged myself in lots of other fun things for the costs of ownership. The nearest SC is 2 hrs away. Appointments are a long wait and breakdown repairs take forever. This time its been 2 weeks before any evidence they've looked at it . I have yet to hear whether it's a simple fix or a wait for parts. And however envronmentally friendly leccy cars are claimed to be it's never that simple and they do require planning for any longer journey unless simply using motorways. These things will change (eventually) but realistically I can't just hop into it on a whim and go..particularly in winter.
I have no need to brag about the marque of my car - for me it's comfort and convenience first and while overtaking is a joy with the power, the reality is that a little patience goes a long way and makes little difference to overall journey times with our roads and speed limits
