We picked up our Red PUP last Thursday. A slight fumble on the contactless pickup other than that, very good overall experience.
Overall, we really love our Red Y! We have named it Road Runner for now. Exterior wise, we did find a total of 8 issues which we are working with Tesla to schedule fixes for. Did a lot of photo documentation same day. There were two major items imo that shouldn’t have gotten through both Factory QC and Delivery QC; especially as the delivery specialist told me it passed final inspection, he did it himself and it was up to his high standards. In general all 8 issues should have been corrected or perhaps not occurred through better factory building processes (manual and automated).
Interior wise, everything is great... seats fold down properly, clothes hooks close properly, dash and seats excellent. The head liner had a couple of spots that we were able to just clean out ourselves.
The build date on our Red Y PUP is May 2020 (vin 33xx). Drives like a Performance Champ! The wife really loves it, she has a Blue Model 3 RWD. It’s going in for paint correction, front wrap, ceramic pro, and tinting once Tesla can fix all the items.
Lessons learned:
- Tesla finance can get you better financing rates (they even know which lenders and rates) if you email and ask them versus the standard quoted. Obviously, everyone is going to shop around themselves, but ask Tesla finance to as well.
- if you own a Tesla already, post delivery acceptance.. to unlock your car, sign out of the Tesla app and sign back in. It downloads your new car configuration and you can swipe to the right to see it to unlock your car. We had tried killing the app several times and reopening it per delivery specialist but that didn’t work.
- take your time and look through all the issues and do a good job documenting them. Only you can decide if you will be happy with the car based in any defects/issues you find.
