I fear I may be in need of someone to talk me out of going all in on stock? This is greatly exceeding my expectations. Unprecedented doesn't begin to describe this.
From long-term view, the stock is still very attractive. It is likely to earn $100~$200 per share by 2026. Sometimes people get too excited, get all in with margin, then for whatever reason, the stock temporary pullback (sometimes 60% pullback) then they get wiped out. I never sell my long-term holdings. I trade other stocks to make profit, then I add the trading profit to my long-term favorites. Tesla passing 200-DMA is a valid entry point. I have a stop loss for the trading portion.

Saw a guy counting the line so I followed, turned out he is a reporter from the Sacramento Bee. I was interviewed for article and also video. Reporter had limited knowledge of Tesla, I did my best.

I'm sure you did very well indeed. My wife and I may go later in the day, will get you the lunch you asked for, if at all possible. I hate lines, but this one.... I'm a typically looking "extinguished" professor, she's a comely 18 year old-looking-asian lady in a 40 year old body.

Compare and contrast lines outside Santa Monica Toyota. Note if you cant spot them initially, they are the ones made with white paint.

So we blew by 236 there, nice. Next big resistance at $239. I don't think there's any chance we break that today.

You might be right. However, I'm curious what will happen in the last 30 minutes.
I'm still waiting for real short covering to kick in. The volume from today doesn't tells me there isn't excessive buying or selling, and certainly isn't much short covering.

First major newspaper report focusing exclusively on the lines by Washington Post

Tesla fans are waiting in line to buy a car that they haven’t even seen yet

Interesting for a direct comparison with Apple, here's the last line of the article:

"Tesla’s announcement comes the same day as Apple is releasing its iPhone SE, which doesn’t seem to be drawing such lines. There was a line in front of Apple’s store in Dusseldorf, Germany, but that was only because there’s a Tesla showroom next door."

Does anyone know/has it been confirmed if we can reserve a car in someone else's name? I'm about 1 hour out from Rocklin with my wife, we are reserving 2. I have a friend that plans to come but is having difficulty with work/child care issues. I would like to reserve one for him if he can't make it?
I heard CA has a law preventing reservation for friends. At least you can give it a try. One possible solution is you reserve 2 (for you and your wife), your wife reserve one under your friend's name. Not sure if they will allow it.

He has also stated explicitly that his tactic is to force them to compete with Tesla by making compelling products at ever more affordable price points to force other makers to compete otherwise Tesla will take their customers and put them out of business.

Make no mistake, Musk is not operating a charity and seeking to help large polluting industries to damage Tesla or limit Tesla's opportunity to grow or to take Tesla's market share downwards in any way at all. Only to stop pouring resources into internal combustion engines because its fruitless and start adding to the worlds supply of EVs instead.

You are probably confused by Musk's promise to allow the use of Tesla's patents in good faith. This was not to damage Tesla either. Not only is this a great defese against getting Tesla sued for patent infringement because that would obviously be bad faith and Tesla would most likely have an instant and more weighty patent infringement counter-suit ready for anyone that brought such a case - but also it subtly causes the future of the auto industry a much higher probability of evolving around Tesla's lead in setting industry standards. Essentially creating Tesla Gigafactory and OTA network compatible customers more likely than not out of any EV project that succeeds.

It is also the case that any ICE company that uses Tesla's technology to accelerate an EV program is hastening the implosion of ICE production. Which is Musk's objective. These patents are a poisoned pill sent to destroy ICE competitors. They were also released ten years after Tesla's founding meaning that any new competitor has a decade of catch up with Tesla that is if anything accelerating away from the competition both existing and startup and the startups would be well advised to ask Tesla for batteries rather than to start from scratch with that too.

Really, really like this bit of prose, Julian, and the content therein.

Don't shoot the messenger, but this just happened in Sweden. It is really not an Tesla-incident as they did not use the right chargers. It might fool some shorters tho. It is in swedish so you would need to Google translate it.

Miljonbilen gick upp i rök i Ljungaverk – Tesla skakas av ny brand
Thanks for the heads-up! I'll hold my fire ;-) A brief digest:

The car was charging from an extension cord at a factory on Easter Saturday when -ire broke out. The expert interviewed self-describes as critical of Tesla, has never driven or ridden in one, expresses concern over the ten times greater energy in a Tesla battery as compared to hybrids which needs more cooling, takes care to point out this is the second -ire recently -- but completely elides all other -irebrands, which are considerably more frequent. Off the top of my head, pick any car brand: Porsche, Audi, Ford, Opel, Mercedes and so on. IIRC, Porsche recalled all of their highend model about six months ago due to overheating. And that's also a million kronor car.

The owners are shaken but seem to be Tesla fans still. The owner's son speaking to Sundsvalls Tidning pleads not to take the negative angle. Which they immediately rush to do. :-/

I reserved my Model 3 at the Highland Park, Illinois store. A product specialist said at least 200 people had been there. It looked more like 300 to me when I left around 10:30 am CDT, a half hour after the store opening. An employee monitoring the queue said a lot more were at the Grand Avenue store on the near northside of Chicago, Illinois. I then drove for 15 minutes to the store at the Old Orchard Mall in Skokie, Illinois. Before 11:30 am CDT a product specialist told me there had been about 160 so far. They'll be open until 9:00 pm CDT and expect more during evening hours.

The person in front of me in the Highland Park queue drove down from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The one behind me drove from Madison, Wisconsin. Tesla stores are outlawed in Wisconsin. A Highland Park product specialist anticipated that the online reservations this evening would far exceed all of those made in stores.

when I ordered in Raleigh this morning, I asked if they are closing at their regular 6pm time. was told they are going to stay open as long as someone is waiting on line. given that people may come to the store after work, there may well be a line at 6. just one rep, but if what he said was accurate, and applies to all stores, that could be an extra hour or two of reservations at these stores today.

While everybody's in line or talking about everybody else in line, I've been spending the day contacting reporters and editors in the New Mexico media to remind them that while the rest of the world is in line for a Model 3, there are no lines in New Mexico today because people aren't allowed to buy cars here, thanks to the auto dealer protectionist laws, and that if and when they do inevitable Model 3 stories, they should include that special New Mexico angle in their stories. Just doin' my part to fight the good fight.

All that needs to needs to be known:

The vehicle used for commercial use and contained aftermarket changes in the electrical system, including an AC inverter and electronics placed in a center console of the market
