I think that quote may be incorrect. I think the car he drove from Darwin to Adelaide was an earlier (non-sport) car.
The one he has offered for sale is a newer 2.x sport Roadster.

Along with the different front end bodywork, you can see different seat colors in the Darwin->Adelaide Roadster compared to the new one.

Correct, it is a different car. The record breaker was LHD and the one for sale is RHD.
