Slow puncture in Model Y

Any advice?

Our car only has 3500 miles on the clock so clearly the tyres have plenty of tread.

But we have a slow puncture in the rear-left tyre.

Normally, we would just get it repaired - tenner and sorted... but both local garages refused as they said the tyres have special noise cancelling foam that makes the job too much hassle.

According to the Tesla website the tyres can be fixed... but noone wants to touch the job.

Any advice?
Do I just have to suck it up and get a new tyre for >200 quid which is irritating (and not exactly environmentally friendly either)
Ideally anyone know anywhere in Glasgow that will try the repair?

Absurd. I've had several punctures fixed on my S with foam lines tyres. My local village garage is happy to do them. I'd suggest you go slight more rural where common-sense prevails as opposed to wanting to only do really simple jobs. My place is happy or me to lurk while they do stuff.. and grateful that I know here things like Jack mode are on the S menus and well as telling them the correct torque figures for the wheel nuts.
For the actual repair they simply cut out and discarded a small piece of foam where the puncture was, Ground/keyed the inside of the tyre glue line and fitted a mushroom.

I had a slow rear puncture in my MY rear left about 3 weeks ago 1000 miles on the clock. Local tyre dealer fixed it with a plug and a patch. removed a section of the foam patched it put the foam back so they told me. Cost me £20 which is a lot for a puncture I know but happy to pay for a sold job on a tyre I will hopefully have for a long time to come. I have always said life is too short to fit cheap tyres and if you do it might be shorter. I kinda feel the same way about tyre repairs.

I would ring round some more places if I were you. someone will want the work surely. You could always offer to pay extra?

I've had a similar experience. Kwikfit gave me a load of BS and wanted to sell me a new tyre.

Find a tyre specialist who knows what they're talking about. Cost me £15 for a repair and I'll probably go back there when I need new tyres. Lesson learned, avoid the chains and find a tyre place with a good reputation.

Unfortunately, both the local garages are normally no issue at all... so was a blow to be told they wont touch it

There's literally dozens of tyre places in and near Glasgow. Let those fingers do the walking and start calling some up. Not sure which part of Glasgow you are in, but Glasgow Mobile Tyres get good reviews online.

Have also got as couple of slow punctures in the rear left tyre caused by small stones 4k mile covered.
I removed all 4 wheels and went round tyres picking out all the stones and couldn't believe how many deep cuts there were. The Hankooks seem to be far more prone to this than any other tyre i have owned.
The rubber is extremely soft and squiggy and with the weight of the Model Y maybe that's why 🤔

Huh, I also suffered rear left slow punctures for my Model 3 too, not sure what it is about that wheel specifically but it’s the only one I’ve had trouble with. Probably no correlation but interesting thats where everyone else seems to also get them.

Unfortunately mine is right rear! It is just a puncture and let’s not overanalyse and blame Tesla!

Oh totally not blaming them for the problem. £8 for a patch isn‘t enough to get the pitchforks out.

I was more wondering if the rear left punctures were a trend, was it caused by something like debris naturally getting thrown to the outside of roundabouts and driven over or something. But I suspect it’s just a bit of a fluke. Be curious what the global fleet puncture stats are though.

I've had my Tesla 2.5 years and had three punctures so far - that's more than I've had in about 40 years of car ownership.

It's obviously the electric motors and their magnets sucking in the screws and nails :p.
Not a tit for tat. I had ICE for 20 years averaged 9 punctures ie approximately once 2 years. Tesla for the last 21/2 years and had one puncture. Though the number of years on EV isn’t comparable and the number of punctures may increase or decrease over the next 20 years, with some certainty I can say driving EV hasn’t changed the numbers at this point atleast for me!

A much more granular analysis of cars give an interesting picture. Had a heavy Range Rover Velar/Evoque for 5 years and had puncture every year that bit skewed the average. Also have a light smart for the last 2 years - guess no puncture for 2 years. May be the weight of the car does have some effect!

Mine was left rear but was a small bolt. Guessing it would have been an issue for any tyre. First puncture in 12 years 250000 miles though. Give or take.

Just picked up my first puncture after nearly 12 months of ownership , which is not bad considering the state of the roads. Anyone getting the standard BS response from the big names and living in the Bishops Stortford area, I can fully recommend Performance Tyres (Protyres), they are happy to repair the acoustic tyres and have a fair bit of experience with Teslas.
