where the stock system has some weakness is imho that it lacks some warmth which you can get by pherhaps boosting 200-300hz (second eq slider) by 2-3db and it lacks bass below 45hz, no doubt from the weak subwoofer. So I guess if thats important to you then an upgrade could make sense.
Helix M One X. You will need a good amp to run at the 4 ohm for the JL sub to hit. I had a local shop do it and came out perfectly. They made the bracket for the JL sub so it fit to stock sub enclosure perfectly.

According to the guys who installed my system (and they have worked on a LOT of Teslas), the 3 has MUCH better acoustics than the S. This is not a comparison of the factory sound systems; just the environment in which they work.
The real question is whether they fixed the acoustics in the new Model S interior refresh. From my time in Model S/X the 3 has far superior sound system as it was tuned much better.
