Story about AP Engaging with all cameras blocked?

I came across this story on Inside EVs where a Model S owner claims to have blocked the front cameras with tape and then to his surprise AP still engaged and drove like a drunk behind the wheel.

I am very skeptical. I think this is a hoax. My Tesla will refuse to engage AP if I am on an unlined road or a road where the lines are obscured and unreadable. So it’s very hard for me to believe that with front cameras completely blacked out that AP would engage.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences?

The cams weren't actually covered completely and it will, like someone partially blindfolded, still be able to see just not as well. Bad experiment.
