For improved efficiency: part time AWD when on highway by disengaging front motor and re-engaging when 'slip detected' or hard acceleration, or part time AWD while on Chill mode.

It already does this. (Which people complain of because it causes some slippage on snow/ice before it turns the front motor on.)

That would be less efficient actually. That's why the RWD versions have shorter ranges.

Actually that was only true on the old Model S/Xs, up until they got a PM motor up front... (The LR RWD Model 3 is more efficient than the LR AWD Model 3.)
