After his comments on Sunday I think it is going to be a while before any of us outside of California can get our 3. Based on previous comments he made during earnings calls I expected a higher rate of production this year but I understand the real life limitations present. Overall a little bummed and looks like I have another year wait ahead of me.
Same here - but on the other hand, my expectations is now back where is was a year ago. Some of the statements in the meantime had me to believe that it could come here 3-6 month earlier then I first thought, but with this numbers it is "back to start" :)

Can we see the email? This is news to me.

Thanks for your reply Robin! I have sat in a Model 3 and it was comfortable to me, but you may think otherwise. We should be getting them in the showrooms in the next two months here and will definitely reach out to everyone with a reservation so you can come and test drive. Let me know if you need anything else!
Now remember, Customer Experience Specialists may not be privy to much in the way of actual information. But it seems generally favorable.

Last month, when the pop-up appeared on the Model 3 page regarding the commencement of test drives by year-end, I clicked on the button to schedule one. However, the resulting page only listed the Model S and X for test drives, so I bailed out. Nonetheless, a few days later, I received an e-mail from a Fremont-based "inside sales advisor" inquiring about my interest in test driving an S or X. I replied that I was only interested in the Model 3. He wrote back that, "test drives are estimated to begin towards the later end of this year." As someone based centrally at the factory, I assume he has more direct access to official facts than the average store employee. Of course, this all transpired a week or so before Sunday's tweets, so things could have changed since then.

Interesting. I guess you could consider September to be late in the year so what the website says could still be correct. That would be nice if they got them to the stores that fast. However, with only 150 predicted for August, they won't have enough to send to all of the stores until sometime in later September, unless that 150 doesn't include demos.

FWIW: very, very low probability that the 3 will not be a great driving vehicle....the X & S certainly are.

Thus, I don't see test drives as critical for a successful rollout. Fit & seat comfort might be more important and getting a few vehicles in the market through a rolling tour might be more valuable....

My wife and I were at the mall yesterday and decided to pop into the Tesla store there. I asked one of the employees about Model 3 test drives and she maintained the official towards-year-end date. It was at this point that my wife turned to me and said, "Why do you need a test drive? You're getting the car anyway." :)

So, after employees and existing Tesla owners, there's a good chance many Californians who reserved on Day 1 can get theirs in time for Christmas?

(Reminder to self: Look for a really big red bow)

Especially if you have liquid funds / cash in hand. Some people will hesitate for features, personal reasons, waiting for an asset to become liquid. If you don't hesitate you could jump half or more of the line for your region.
