Supercharger - Corning (6 V2 stalls)

I checked it out for the first time last Thursday (9ish) in the morning (live close by but never been there), I was the only one there for 25 minutes while I got a coffee. Tesla Nav said there were 3 cars there the whole time... I don't use SuC all that much, is bad reporting pretty normal?

It is usually relatively accurate but I think the temporary stalls throw it off.

Some superchargers don't "communicate" properly so they show up as always being in use. The errors are usually in multiples of 2 so it must be that 2 paired stalls are not communicating. I have seen it as bad as an empty 18-stall location where it constantly shows as 14 being in use.

Now that Mt. Shasta SuC has expanded significantly, Corning will be the I5 choke point with more Teslas on the road.

Yeah, certainly at times.

But the M3 LR battery and the 90/100S sizes might be able to make it directly to Mt. Shasta City without stopping at Corning if they depart the new Sac Supercharger (220 miles or so) even with the elevation gain if they monitor their speed.

And certainly southbound would be no problem.

Maybe the projected Redding Supercharger will be ready to go by mid-summer to alleviate some of this anticipated congestion.

I was just at the Corning supercharger a couple days ago and there were 2 temporary stalls, which I believe makes it 8 total. Supercharge.info says 6, but I think it's 6 permanent + 2 temporary. There are 6 parking spots in the area where the temporary stalls are, so they could easily expand to 12. I think the course of action will probably be to expand to 12 in Corning and add a supercharger in Redding that is at least 8 stalls, hopefully more.

I believe Grants Pass will end up being the choke point even though it was recently expanded from 4 to 8. But I do realize that a certain percentage of Californians driving north will split off to Klamath Falls and head to Central and Eastern Oregon, so hopefully it won't be a significant choke point for at least another year or two. I would suggest that they add a new supercharger in a better location such as Ashland to take some of the load off. The amenities at Grants Pass leave something to be desired.

Redding and Williams will help, but Corning will still need to be upgraded or moved. My vote would be to close the Corning site and move it to the Rolling Hills Casino ~5 miles away along i5. 24hr bathrooms, free drinks, hotel, gaming, dinning, and most important....SECURITY (especially at night).

That would be a good location, but there's no need to shut the current location down. Just build another one and let people choose which one they want to use.

Sounds good to me, especially for daytime and burst loads. We drive through this corridor ~monthly, and try our best to manage the schedule so we are not at Corning at night due to the lack of facilities and safety. Then again, I guess you can relieve yourself in the grass field in the back of the SC as a last resort, just watch your step because the person in front of you may have did the same...JK

Totally agree, the folks at Best Western graciously allow us to use their BR and even offer cold water on those 100 deg days. This stop is not an option for folks traveling through the corridor, and it would be nice if it was located in an area where access to amenities didn't require a walk through town at night.....and I will leave it at that (just my opinion).

Planning to leave the bay area now (6:30am) do you still suggest 101? Was thinking about max charge on a p90d at corning to get to grants pass.

It's always faster to charge to 80%. There are enough chargers that you would do better to charge more often and use the lower part of the battery. I'd charge enough to get to shasta (plus extra for driving freeway speeds) and then enough to get to Klamath. The last 20% of the battery takes as long as the first 80%, it seems.
