Supercharger - Mackinaw City, MI

There is no further work or update at this location as I passed thru town to check it out on 11-09-2019. In the UP, Highway 2 at the bridge has a detour of about 20 miles. Impossible to drive from Gaylord to and thru the Mackinaw bridge and west along highway 2 to Green Bay or some other SC in the winter as the distance is too great.

I agree. I’m from Marquette and can’t visit with my new M3. It’s funny when I put Marquette in navigation, I can get there with 2% left, but no help on how to get back. In time we’ll get Escanaba and Marquette, I’m on board with profitability as long as the chargers arrive in 2020.

There a few level 2 charging options that enable a trip to Marquette. Marquette itself has a dual Chargepoint charger in the municipal parking garage. It would be an adventure, for sure, but definitely possible. One hour on the charger at the Mackinaw City marina would get you to Marquette with a comfortable margin in the summer - perhaps 2 hours in the winter. Plus the Mackinaw City Supercharger is currently under construction, which will bring the distance down to an easy 170 miles.

That’s a tough one. I’m from Esky and live in the Chicago area. Have visited countless times but arrive with 100mi left. I leave the car charging on my parents 110 and it recoups in 2-3 nights including minimal driving.

I have an older 2104 MS85 with max range now approx 242 miles and I have driven confidently to Marquette 10X since 2014, and YES, I have arrived a few times with 5 to 10 miles or so of range, including this past summer, but I have never fretted about not making it because I use the on-board range calculus which estimates my range based on how I drive, and I sometimes adjust my driving as needed to be sure I make it. When the speed limit was 55 it was a no brainer (I added range), but now it's 65 so unless I want to drive below the speed limit (and a few times I have had to, slightly). Admittedly, I have driven to Mqt only in the summer and fall - so I have not tested my current range calculus in winter. If you don't have the long range battery you are limited in any event off-grid.

In winter, heading north or northwest from Mackinaw City, I would suggest leaving with a full range charge no matter what model, new or old...and I suggest downloading the Plugshare app for knowledge of additional stops in an emergency. There are several between the bridge and Mqt and Level 2 chargers in downtown Marquette, as has already been mentioned.

Just drove through Mackinaw City last night and looks the same as prev pics, though at the road there seems to be work being done to maybe connect lines. Maybe it will be done soon. 213CDA07-74AA-400F-ADD5-A0DB561408B9.jpeg7DFA730B-246D-4F0F-A698-CC6F60054989.jpeg

Just drove through again and more seems to have happened. Must be all set to put chargers in. Makes sense to wait until spring I suppose. Will continue checking on way through.
