Great news, and thanks for the pics. This SC showed up in navigation this morning, so I did a quick check of the Houston -> Greenville, GA supercharger route (for my 19" P85). I was amused to see that I'd be passing through Albert Lea, MN on the way...

I don't know if this is just a beta software "funny" or a case where the current routing software is written so conservatively that the Slidell, LA SC is required to make that a feasible route (as far as the algorithm is concerned, at any rate).

I noticed something similar. Evtripplanner is routing my 85D through Wisconsin when I look up the trip from Baton Rouge to Mobile and choose "route through SC". When I choose "route direct", EVTP estimates a 67.3kWH usage which the 85D should comfortably make. Could someone who had driven this Baton -> Moblie (or Mobile -> Baton) route comment on their experience? I'm planning a Phoenix to Orlando trip this summer and Tesla/EVTP both say this is not doable. My guess is, with a range charge, I should be fine. Thanks.

I've not driven that route yet, but I think you'll be fine only if you keep your speed down to 65mph or less, which wil be hard to do on that highway. When I drive that route this summer in my 60 I plan a long stop at the CHAdeMO in New Orleans. I think you should plan for at least a short stop. Or you could consider timing it to stay overnight at the Best Western in La Place, LA which has HPWCs.

I should mention that you can create an EVTripplanner route manually by using route direct and then selecting each en-route SuperCharger and clicking the "Charge Here" button. Once you're done, the Steps and Details tabs give you the same kind of results as the automatic plans.

I'm thinking of trying to make the whole leg on one charge and bailing at the Mazalea Travel Park for a 14-50 charge if things look iffy. It's about 50 miles short of the Mobile SC and very in range for the 85D. I just checked the Level 3 in New Orleans and it was recently reported to be down by Plugshare. My overnight is planned for Tallahassee.

Thanks, I just tried it out and it's a nice feature. I'm guessing/hoping someone else has run these SCs and if no one reports on it before I attempt in late June then I'll pass along the info.

Damage at Mobile Alabama supercharger

Mobile Supercharger vehicle damage. Be careful backing up to these superchargers. I do not have the lift package and scraped the bottom of the car on the cement parking curb. I do not know why they do not use the lower parking curbs. Also you have to back right up to the curb because the power cables are short. I pulled in sideways at the last charger.

On my way from New Orleans to New Jersey - first supercharger stop Mobile, AL. I was one of three long distance travelers charging early afternoon (Louisiana, Texas and Washington plates):

There will be another charging option in Mobile for Tesla owners who want to spend the night there. We wanted to stay at the Kate Shepard House B&B on our return from Florida to Texas in late summer and I suggested they apply for the destination charging program. The owner was very interested and I heard back today that they were approved for a HPWC. No installation date given though so if you're interested please check with them.

I have to say that on my return trip from New Jersey I arrived at the Mobile, AL supercharger a little after midnight on Friday night and this site is poorly lit at that hour. All of the mall parking lot lights are off and the only lighting is from the street lights which are some distance away from the actual chargers. The lights from the charging pedestals and the Tesla logos probably offer the most lighting.

It didn't really bother me (I got about a 40 min. nap in the car while charging) but I could see where it might make some users uncomfortable charging here late at night.

I charged there during the day, which was fine, but I can certainly see how it could be sketchy at night. What a nice looking supercharger though with spaces on both sides to reduce the possiblity of ICE and allow a trailer towing Model X to charge without blocking anything.

When I was there it appeared someone had kicked in the door to the supercharger enclosure, though nothing was tampered with inside, and the way the door lock was done certainly would fall into the category of "crappy design", meaning it didn't take much to get that door open. Unless I don't understand how it was implemented, that mechanism looks like it would (and did) just slide around the pole without much force applied to the door. I've already notified Tesla and they are addressing the broken door lock.

That's a very unusual sign. Is the area so worrisome that someone might want an escort to walk from the mall parking lot into the mall? It seems to confirm the postings on Yelp about the mall early in this thread. Was there an incident that prompted posting this sign? Is this the only supercharger with such a notice?

When I was there, the mall security would loop around the supercharger every time they drove around the mall, probably every 10 minutes. I have to give them (the mall management in general) credit for doing their best here. I didn't feel like there would be any danger or need for an escort while the mall was open, but after everything closes, that could be a whole different story, especially if the lighting is near non-existent there as NOLA_Mike stated.

I charged here a few days ago on a Sunday afternoon. I just have to ask Tesla: Why here??? Why did you choose this site with all the places you could have put this SC? I just completed a trip using every SC from Phoenix to Orlando and the Mobile SC was a rough experience to say the least. The curiosity of the public in general about these cars and what we are doing at these SC's is mostly a good experience but not here. An ICE car pulled up one space over from me with a group of 4 adults in it. The driver stepped out and asked me if he could charge his car there. I told him I didn't think he would have much luck with that and laughed to try to be friendly. Standing outside alone with my family in my car, I immediately felt intimidated by how the car pulled in so quick and how fast the guy jumped out of it. A few people in his car were laughing and I got the feeling that they were laughing at what the driver was doing and at me. Initially I was on the passenger side of my car and I moved to the driver side to put an object between us. He then started toward my car and I opened my door as if I were ready to leave. He decided to walk back to his car and just left. I have had many conversations with random people approaching me to talk about the Model S at many SC's I have never got the feeling I got from this guy. IMO, at the best, he was there to hassle someone who didn't belong in his neighborhood and at the worse, he had something planned and my actions made him reconsider. We are heading back to Phoenix next week and no one in my family wants to stop there to charge again. I think I'll leave my family at one of the malls up the street and charge the car myself. Tesla, you need another SC somewhere between Baton Rouge and Mobile (maybe Slidell?) so this site can be bypassed. It may be only a matter of time before it becomes a fun thing for the locals to make frequent visits here (and not for good reasons).

I wanted to comment on my return trip and experience my second time here. I charged at noon on a Tuesday. There was already another unoccupied MS in one of the stalls. I decided to leave my family at a nearby mall to do some shopping while I charged. I saw one car drive a circle around the SC checking the two MS's out but it did not stop. After about 5 minutes the owner of the other MS came back to his car with his son. We spent a few minutes discussing the normal stuff about how we love these cars, where we were headed, etc and he mentioned how he was approached by a man in a car just before I arrived. I mentioned my experience and he had the same general feeling about his experience as I had with mine a few weeks earlier. He was done charging and left a few minutes after we started talking, so I was there alone. I decided (AND MY RECOMMENDATION FOR ANYONE CHARGING HERE IS TO DO THE SAME) to walk over to Target and hang there for the duration of the charge. If you are not by your car, you can't be approached. If I end up at this SC in the future, I'll be at Target again for sure and I'll make sure I time it so it is during business hours. Happy travels everyone.

i hate hearing that this is happening in my town. Not really sure why this spot was chosen especially since the mall is losing tenants.
I really think they should have placed the Supercharger over near the new Costco. You at least have the 24hr Steak N Shake and movie theater

This is very discouraging. I am planning a trip out west in a few months and wanted to drive out through the southern states and back through the northern states. From what I have found on plushare, you can't even use a CHAdeMO in the area, so you are kind of stuck with this location.

Have any of you reported your experiences to Tesla? I'm sure they can't move it now, but perhaps they can pressure the Mall for more security in that area. Based on the postings here, it sounds like it is only going to be a matter of time before something bad happens at this location. Be safe everyone.
