Supercharger - Owen Sound, ON

It's on supercharge.info because Ross said it on this post, not the other way around...

Yes, This got added to supercharge.info as a result of this thread, not because any progress on the site itself.

Would also like to add that I believe this will be an 8 stall location. Hopefully will begin construction soon and we can verify that I am correct.

They haven't constructed anything smaller than 8 stalls in the US in quite a while. The smaller sites become strained too easily. Say one of the supercharger cabinets goes down and now all the sudden you have two stalls working and it can easily lead to a backup on a Friday or Sunday even in a rural area.

Also there is sometimes confusion about the number of stalls because people see 4 supercharging cabinets on the site plan or whatever, which actually means 8 stalls since each cabinet serves two stalls. That could have been what happened here.

Sorry for being late to get back on this thread. I spent the last 4 days painting our kitchen. There is a construction fence up in that area. It is a long narrow fenced in area that is just the right size for a Supercharger set up. Absolutely no work has been done. But I cannot think of anything else other than a Supercharger that would make sense in such a small fenced in area. It is the ideal spot for one in Owen Sound. There is almost never anyone parking there. Usually in the winter they use that area to pile up the snow they plow off the parking lot. Hope that won’t happen once the Superchargers are installed. There is a McDonalds in the Walmart, within a few meters are a Harvey/Swiss Chalet and a Montana Steakhouse. Within 5 minutes walk there are a Boston Pizza, Tim Horton’s, Wendy’s, The Keg, A&W. All the fast food garbage your tummy could desire.

does anyone have an idea of how long it takes from 'fence up' to 'open?

How about from 'shovel in ground' to 'open'?

Just looking at the Tesla map for 'coming in 2017' locations and wondering if that's realistic. Still 2.5 months left so anything's possible if that answer to my questions above is 2-3 weeks.

Going by the two most recent to open in Canada - Levis took 3 months and Brossard took 2 months. But there can be all sorts of unexpected delays for various reasons. Check out the specific threads to get more info.

We have driven our MS90D 54,000 miles in 16 months and visited 105 different Superchargers in 24 US states. We live on a ranch about 50 miles southeast of Denver and have been to the West Coast 3 times & Florida twice. In watching new Superchargers being installed, about 90 days is average, but some have popped up in 6 weeks and some have taken forever. Local bureaucracies can sit on permits and inspection sign offs for months. The Laramie, Wyoming SC looked completed for two months before it was actually activated.

The process is a lot of trenching to run wires, with concrete pads poured for the various components to be installed. Next the SCs mounted along with the transformers, usually 1 SC for 2 stalls, the bollards, or actual charging units go in fairly early, but the utility transformer is installed by the power company after most of the other work is done. After that the Meter is installed. Once all of that is finished, then a Tesla tech will come and test all the equipment, and put labels on the charging units, usually 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, etc. and only then will it be activated. Tesla is opening new SCs almost daily now so they are getting faster and faster, but plan on about 90 days, all else being equal. Weather is also a factor.

We plan on touring your area in late spring.

@Phillip L the station got added as "In Construction" on SuC info, but at least there upgraded the number of stalls. If there are no surprise chargers (like Barrie North) that pop up in Canada any time soon, we will have 300 Tesla Supercharging stations in the country!
