What: Tesla to install an 8-stall V3 supercharger station in the Sunset Parking Lot in West Hollywood.
Address: 8759-8775 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069

GPS: 34.091635, -118.382241

Yes, this is an access controlled pay parking lot. Yes, Tesla owners who choose to charge here will have to pay both their normal supercharging costs and the full parking rate, which at this time is $2/hr from open at 8AM until 6PM and $5 flat rate after 6PM Sun-Thurs; or $8 flat rate after 6PM Fri & Sat. Here's the West Hollywood Parking webpage which should list any rates changes in the future.

In addition to the 8 supercharger stalls, Tesla is also going to do the electrical infrastructure work to support up to 4 universal DCFC stations in the same lot for the city to install and operate if they choose to do so. The Staff report also included this comment pointing to the likelihood of further supercharger developments in the city:
Staff and Tesla are exploring other potential locations for installation of additional Supercharger Stations. If Council approves this Agreement, it will serve as a template for future implementations. In addition, staff has introduced Tesla to several private parking lot owners for potential expansion of its fast-charging network throughout the City.

They’ve lowered the rates at Superchargers located behind paid parking: 20 cents per kWh all day. Even if you go at the previous standard supercharging rate in most of California which was 35 cents/kWh, paying this new rate will save you almost $8 if charging something like a Model 3 from 10 to 80 percent. This $8 more than makes up for the 30 minutes or so you’ll be parked there to supercharge. They’ve structured supercharging prices to mostly equalize those with paid parking and those with free parking.

I know this location and grew up just blocks away. This is fantastic news coming to a very congested area, with plenty of apartment buildings and numerous tiny homes smashed together like sardines, most without driveways or garages, limited to street parking.

Update: Construction underway! Snapped a few photos over the fence. I do not see any Tesla crates or other branded equipment. This clearly looks like the transformer location. It also looks like that are doing far more work here than just the Supercharger stalls. Those blocks in pic #3 are a good 8" think. My guess is that those are for a retaining structure, as the entire east side of the lot is adjacent to an earthen wall.
