I don't see the problem here.
Finances.

And they could remind business owners that Model S has a LOT of cargo space. Plenty of room in the frunks for those optional impulse purchases.
Which reminds me...

Q: "Um, I just have to ask. Why do you have a printer at the track?"
A: "Well, it was in my frunk and, you know, gotta empty the vehicle."

True story.

(More detail: Fry's in Oregon has no sales tax and it was $20.)

Driving across country I got so tired of fast food and/or chain restaurants. Love to see more superchargers near independent stores and dining options. Whole Foods would be great though!
Make sure you get the Wickenburg AZ SpC on your route - there are only independent eateries, and retail stores*, within walking distance.

*Basha's Supermarket excluded. But even that is a niche-regional chain only.

Unfortunately yes, and I can't supercharge. As such I often charge at Nissan dealers which have been great. So I will often get them a snack, some smoked meat, or a large cookie as a way to say thank you to the staff. On this last trip we had hoped to stop at a KOA for 3 hours but the circuit kept tripping until I dropped to 32 amps on a 50 amp service. So we spent the night at the adjacent hotel.

Superchargers aren't the problem. Slow chargers are.

In Shelton, WA there are very few charging locations. One of the easier ones to find (thank you plugshare, I think...) is a Chargepoint with two plugs. It runs at 30A. Not great, but a nice oasis in the desert.

The problem? It's at a casino.

2+ hours (I was only topping off) with "nothing else to do" at a casino can get expensive.

I charged a couple times at Little Creek Casino.

Don't worry, Brianman. I have your money. Thanks for the lunch too!

I have to agree with a couple of the posts here ... and while I have only been to a handful of SCs the Albany SC should be THE model. It's right off a couple of highways, there is a Whole Foods that has an insane amount of food options in addition to a great sitting/eating area (Tesla management --- maybe consider a partnership here?). And if you are not hungry, there's an entire mall for your browsing pleasure, including an LL Bean. So much better than locating them at Service Centers in industrial parks!

I finally took my Model S on a long road trip and using the superchargers for the first time. I went from Columbus, OH to Milwaukee, WI!
I went to 2 superchargers on the way up and each time the supercharger cost me money.
The first supercharger we stopped at had a Barnes and Nobel. My wife decided to buy some books costing me $30! Not too bad.
The second supercharger was at an outlet mall!!! My wife ended up buying clothes for our son and ended up spending $200!!!
Luckily on the way back down one supercharger was at a service center and the second at a restaurant with no shopping areas around.
Despite the supercharger being free I think it cost me more money than an ICE car!!
May have to second think bringing my wife on my road trips!!!

Has this happened to anyone else?
I think this info would be very helpful for Tesla to push businesses to put superchargers on their properties.

I tend to indulge in getting some (usually unhealthy) snacks while waiting at a supercharger, so that costs me both money and extra time (read: compensation at the gym) ;)
For business owners we are the perfect target group I guess.

I don't even have a Tesla yet and a Supercharger cost me money LOL. I stopped by the Hawthorne Supercharger, and went inside to look at the Model X. Before I knew it I had bought my wife a Tesla jacket. The good news is the receptionist packaged it in a nice Tesla bag which we use at the grocery store.

While I understand the sarcasm in this thread, at least the money you're spending is on goods that have value and ones that you might have bought anyway at another time (clothing, food, etc.). On the flip side, gasoline just gets burnt and expelled into the atmosphere. I'd rather spend my money on food and clothing.

Man up! Get her a red one.

That's how my wife thinks about it.

Former NASA Space Shuttle parts... marked down from $1B to $10k.

To me: a waste of $10K.
To her: she saved us $999,990,000!

:)

Great post
its a wise marketer than grasshoppers this one

Roseville is by the galleria mall, anchored by Nordstrom, not only do I save thousands, but I could fully charge 3 tesla from zero with time left over. Vacaville is not much better. Wife saw me posting this and inserted "happy wife, happy life"

I do not even need to go to a supercharger to spend money, we have saved money on gas but we are spending much more on food. Most of the time we start the morning off by saying where do you want to drive today and let's have some lunch. The good part is I would rather by food than gas, so a very good trade off. With all my other cars we did take rides but not on such a regular basis, after over a year I still love driving this car.

The Roseville Supercharger is across the street from a Whole Foods. That little shopping area (The Fountains) has some great small restaurants & will get you away from the big Nordstroms and other stores at the Galleria. (But you'll still spend money. :) )
-------
If you're charging on a Tuesday morning between 8:30am and 1pm, check out the Farmers Market in the parking lot near Whole Foods. Or if you're there in the evening, check to see if any events are going on (right now is a good bet for a summer concert) Fountains Events Fountains at Roseville

SCs, Gilroy and Vacaville in particular, have cost our household lots of moolah. My wife loves the Loft, Banana Republic etc. outlets at these places. Granted, she's nice enough to pick stuff up for both boys in the household as well while we hang out around the SCs or the food joints nearby :) She's a real deal hound so, the damage's not too bad usually.

When my wife and I drove from CT to NC, seemingly we could not get away from a Panera Bread. They seem to be in every plaza that Tesla set up a charger in. However, depending on how much one spent, the savings on gas helps off set it. Just a an academic exercise, I make note of how many mile I add at a charger and figure out how much that would have cost me in gas. A lot of the times I save more than I spent.
