Superchargers in Northern California (location speculation)

Manteca supercharger

OK, I drove through Manteca again today. No signs of construction at the 4 major intersections that I checked. I also stopped in at the Lathrop machine shop and all the electrical service work is complete and it is definitely not going to be a supercharger site. All the transformers and electrical cabinets are installed and the ground has been covered backup and the asphalt patched. Project looks complete and no pads or anything left indicating more equipment for supercharger station. So we can put to bed the Lathrop site as a potential site, and I'm back to just looking at the other better suited locations in the Manteca/Lathrop area.

Hi all, this is my first post. I'm a new soon to be owner expecting delivery next month. I drive through Manteca regularly from the East Bay to the central valley for work so I've been very interested in a supercharger in the Manteca area. I thought people would be interested to know where it will be located. I've looked through this thread and didn't see it already posted but tons of speculation on where in Manteca. It appears from the City's website that Tesla is working through the permitting process to install the supercharger on Hwy 120 on the western side of the Bass Pro Shop. That location makes sense as the shopping center has a movie theatre, a few restaurants, and shopping with easy access from the freeway (everything Tesla looks for in a location). The City of Manteca posts the status of outstanding permits online (http://www.ci.manteca.ca.us/ProjectStatusReport.pdf). The permit status was last updated in April and I drive by it everyday. I haven't seen construction start but you can see the parking lot area where it will be located from the freeway.

S85, red, tan leather/piano, pano, tech, parking, ordered: 21-June-2014, confirmed: 24-June-2014, delivery 18-Sep-2014, vin: 52356

It's not off route for those going north on the 101 who want to go straight through the Bay Area up to Marin or farther north. And if they want to go to SF it's easy to take the 880 through Fremont and then across the Bay Bridge to SF.

Just so you know, in NorCal freeway numbers are not preceded by "the" as they are in SoCal. You can confirm this by listening to a KCBS traffic report and comparing it with a KNX one for SoCal.

The City of Willits would probably be really interested in a Supercharger. The 101 bypass will be done next year or so and I think they are a little worried the town will become like Cloverdale after the Bypass went in there. But now Cloverdale would be a prime place because it is at the junction of 128 to the coast and just below 20 to go east

Exactly what I was going to say. I guess ecarfan is a Southern California native? Adding "the" in front of the name of a road doesn't really make any sense anyhow. It's like saying, "Drive down the 1st street and turn left at the Broadway." That's hella stupid.

Guys, relax. :) I was born in the Bay Area and spent many years in So Cal. Have lived in the Bay Area for the past 16 years. I understand that putting "the" in front of freeway numbers is a So Cal thing.

Regardless of where the pending "101 north of Santa Rosa" SC will be located, I'm really looking forward to having an SC in that area. While I regularly do the roundtrip from San Mateo to Santa Rosa in my 85 with no charge stops and no worries, I would like to be able to comfortably travel to locations as far north as Eureka, with some form of destination charging there, knowing that I could hit an SC on the way back home.

Not sure if this is old news but it looks like Reno has a HPWC available at the Peppermill Inn:

"The Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno has installed two Tesla Connector charging stations for Model S owners.

The high-powered connectors run off of a 240-volt circuit that supplies twice the amperage as a traditional outlet. At maximum amperage, the connector supplies power at 20 kW, adding up to 58 miles of range to a Tesla Model S in one hour.

Hotel guests can fully charge their Tesla vehicles in five hours. The Model S can travel 265 miles on a single charge, which allows Tesla owners to drive between Reno and San Francisco without recharging.

In addition to the Tesla charging stations, the Peppermill also offers an on-site geothermal aquifer to heat 100 percent of the resort's domestic water and mechanical heat and the recent installation of energy-saving LED lighting in its parking lots."

Any news on the SC that is anticipated in the Santa Rosa area? Making a weekend trip to the area in 3 weeks with friends, may be forced to leave the MS home...

There has been no news, and speculation was that it would be farther north than Santa Rosa, so you will almost certainly not have a supercharger available. How about slow charging at your destination?

I routinely drive my S85 from my home in San Mateo to Santa Rosa, roundtrip 147 miles, which is easy to do at any legal speed without charging during the trip.

How far is the trip you are planning? Your profile shows you have an 85 and are in Palo Alto. Unless you are going well past Santa Rosa you should be fine. Keep it to 65 on the freeways.

I am looking forward to an SC somewhere north of SF, and agree with @emupilot that it will be somewhere well north of Santa Rosa. No need for one in that city. For those that live in the San Jose area who want to go to Santa Rosa, they can stop at the Fremont SC for 15 minutes on their way home and their trip will be easy. Those of us who live on the peninsula don't need an SC in Santa Rosa, we need it farther north around Ukiah so we can get to the Humboldt/Eureka area.

Tesla, I am waiting patiently...

that sucks a bit (well not really, it is awesome, but I will still need to stop at a 14-50 or drive slow to make it to the bay area + getting to Eureka from Petaluma will not be doable either on 1 charge at 'normal' driving speeds

guess it is good for Bodega from the south. Cloverdale needs one too or Hopland

It may take a while, but I am sure that Tesla will be filling in 1 and/or 101 in the future...

I see on the supercharger map a red dot north of Santa Rosa somewhere. It says coming this year, we are running out of time. Anyone know anything about where this might be, if they are going to get this done by the end of the year they would need to start on it now.

See NorCal Supercharger locations? - Page 24.

A couple of us have heard that it will be south of Santa Rosa in Petaluma...
