Switching interior color after delivery schedule e-mail?

I'm in NJ, reserved on 2/15/17, ordered on 6/28/18, contacted for pick-up on 9/7 and scheduled for pickup on 9/28
Config:
P3D-
Deep Blue
18" Aero Wheels
EAP
Black interior

Long Story Short - I asked to switch to white interior shortly before I got my invite to schedule pickup and now I'm told if I want to switch, there's no guaranty when I can get the car and it may be deep into 2019. Looking for advice and any experience with the "rematch" process.

Short Story Long -
On 9/6, I finally convinced my wife that our kids wouldn't wreck white seats and called customer service to change my order. They said it might delay delivery a bit and I should make the switch online. When I tried, I realized I don't have an edit button and figured I'd deal with it in the morning (dumb move)
On 9/7 I get an e-mail that my car can be picked up on 9/20-9/27 and I immediately respond I want to change to white seats before I get a VIN.
On 9/8 I get a call from a delivery specialist who advises I should lock in 9/28 and they'll try and find me a car with white seats before then, so I do.

Today I have a follow up e-mail and call with the delivery specialist and tell him I really want the white interior so I want to pass on this car, let them give it to someone else and get a new one started (I'll accept the risk of late delivery knowing they are quoting 2 months for brand new P3D orders). He tells me that's not an option, they have NOT been looking for a white interior car for me and I only have 2 options:
1. Cancel my order, forfeit my $3,500 and start over.
2. Officially opt for a re-match which he says goes like this - I forfeit the car on its way to me. AFTER they match it with someone else in the NJ area, they will begin to look for a car that someone else passes on that's spec'd the way I want (my spec but with white seats). I can ONLY get a car then if someone in NJ passes on a car spec'd exactly the way I want and there's no guaranty when, if ever, that will occur.
He also immediately e-mails me a VIN number after I say I should be able to change because they haven't given me a VIN yet.

I'm not loving either of these options. There's got to be another way. I'm in no rush to get the car, but don't want to go into 2019 and miss out on the full tax rebate. I'd also hate to lose free supercharging.

Best I can think of:
1. Maybe I can find someone in NJ wanting the spec I ordered who will take this car and then they'll start a new build for me?
2. Super long shot - anyone on here with a similar car on order with white seats that wants black seats so we can swap? I can be flexible on FSD/EAP and wheels, but need P3D, no performance package, and Blue on white)

HELP! Anyone have any advice? Anyone opt for a "rematch" in the tri-state area, and if so, how'd it go?

The delivery specialist I've been working with says he usually does solar sales but got pulled in to help with deliveries recently. I'm not sure I'm getting the correct answers here.

Interesting... I never realized the TSportOnline kit included the doorcards. Is it self install or did you have to take it somewhere? If the latter, how much does run? Feel free to PM me if you prefer not to post it here.

Sorry I had said TSportOnline instead of TSportline. It’s late.

Install price varies my geography; central FL quote was $600

The TSportline kit does not include the door panels, did that myself. A quick YouTube search will yield a how-to diy video I did on the door panels. They will sell you the extra leather (2xyards) for a reasonable price.

Ik, I’ll bite :)

Tesla made and was ready to deliver the car you ordered. You changed your mind. They offered you a way to not loose your deposit and that isn’t good enough.

I wonder what % of folks expect something special from the delivery person?

That’s crazy because I changed my identical order to yours from black to white on afternoon of 9/7 and got the call to schedule the delivery the very next day.

If I had gotten the call for the black interior though I was ready to accept it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Totally fair. I get that. I just find it hard to believe that there isn't someone waiting for this exact config that they could re-direct to and then build a new one and have 2 locked down sales. I was prepared to take the risk that I wouldn't get it by year end. I just don't see why the only option is waiting for someone to turn down a car.

The sudden delivery e-mail the day after I ask for the switch (and got the run around) coupled with the scramble to issue a VIN to "lock me in" also kinda left a bad taste.

First world problems. I know.

I placed my order last night, feeling pressured because of the fact that Tesla is getting rid of the color I wanted for a while now, so I went ahead and ordered it (silver metallic), but uhhh.... I'd rather not take delivery of my vehicle for a couple months like November-ish, due to my situation and the rush in getting everything together. (RWD model). Do you think Tesla would be able to work with me to either refuse a car until later months? or am I in a pickle?

Thanks dude. Your response was just the medicine I needed. Your seats look great and there's an installer only 2 miles from my house. I think I'm going to take the black car knowing I'd have the option to switch over to white if I don't like it for about the same cost.

Smart move - enjoy the car... Black interior does look great with the piano black console...

If you don't take delivery of your car within 7 days of the proposed delivery window they will give the car to someone else and re-schedule you.

Your deposit will not be refundable once you are given a VIN.

you know i thought the same thing then included in the email yesterday about paint change and supercharging changing it said exactly,

"As a reminder, you can easily buy a Tesla online without visiting a store or doing a test drive, and have it delivered directly to your home or work. We are highly confident that you will feel great about your purchase, which is why you can always return it within 2 days for a full refund."

To me, full refund would include deposit.

Um, good luck?

I don't really know how it would work in that case. I'm specifically referencing the situation where they have your $3500 and you back out of a delivery.
