I'm sure vehicles have had paint chip since the very first one came off the line. I'm just saying I've never seen it happen so quickly and dramatically with any other vehicle I've owned or been in close contact with, especially the flaking during washing.
I took this photo after 6 months of owning my Y. I've since added front mudflaps.

The spartan interior common to Teslas is going to turn off a number of buyers who want more physical controls.
Drove a friend over the weekend in our Model X, who said that Musk is the reason he won't buy a Tesla. I'm sure many others feel the same way.

And the horn button isn't just an inconvenience. It is a serious safety issue. I'm looking forward to the day when NHTSA forces Tesla to redesign it.

I don't think they have any standing to do that. They have no requirement for a horn at all. They could change the standards for future vehicles... (That would probably only take a decade or two.)

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) does not require a horn on motor vehicles. Our safety standard for motor vehicle controls and displays (Safety Standard No. 101, 49 CFR '571.101) specifies requirements for a horn if one is provided. The horn must be operable by the driver, and must be identified as specified in the standard. I am enclosing a copy of Standard No. 101 for your information.

From what I can tell the only requirement is that if you have a horn, the "button" be clearly marked, unless it is just the center of the steering wheel.

States may have different requirements.

Not going to happen. Horns are not a federal requirement on passenger cars. If a vehicle is equipped with one, FMVSS 101 sets requirements for its identification only.

Individual states, however, do have horn requirements.

Great update by Stellantis, new battery platform for small, med and large vehicles and trucks
ranges 300-500 miles

great to see finally Stellantis is getting serious
We now have GM, Ford, and Stellantis following Tesla
Tesla's amazing leadership is finally waking up the industry
that is all Elon wanted, dont think he ever intended to have Tesla supply the world with EVs
Toyota is still lagging with a fantasy of solid state batteries, good to hear, but that reality is years away

Unfortunately Stellantis is big on talk and low on execution. About six months ago there was a corporate directive that each division come up with a plan to electrify their fleets and those that have weak plans will be shut down. Since then the Chrysler division has been rolling out concepts, but so far they have done virtually nothing to actually make those cars a reality. Stellantis will probably keep Ram and possibly Jeep as they are profitable, but Chrysler and Dodge will probably be shut down.

As a result of their electrification initiative Jeep and Ram may start importing electric drive trains from European divisions to electrify their fleet, but there doesn't seem to be the infrastructure in the North American division to do much native work on EV drivetrains. GM and Ford both have dedicated teams and projects working on the EV problem, designing new vehicles as well as addressing the practical problems to get them into mass production. It's possible that what they are doing will be too late to save the company, but they are actually doing something concrete.

I agree Elon's antics are driving away at least some potential customers. If I were in the market today I would think twice about buying a Tesla because of his screwiness. It looks like the stock price of Tesla has quit yo-yoing with everything he does at Twitter, but he did tank the Tesla stock price for a while with his antics. If Twitter has a major problem the Tesla stock price will probably crash again.

Tesla really doesn't need him at the helm anymore. What they need is a good solid engineer who knows the business well. Someone who is skilled, but boring.

That describes Tim Cook of Apple, and I agree that a similar CEO would be a welcome change for Tesla. Dare Obasanjo said it best:

Comparing this year’s Q2 to last years is idiotic because last year we had a lock down in Shanghai in that Q.

I thought of Tim Cook when I wrote that.

More on the EU - UK EV tariff thing ....

"After Britishvolt's collapse in January, the UK has almost no battery production to speak of, save for Nissan's plant in Sunderland, although EV battery specialist Envision has begun work on a new Gigafactory in the area. That plant is only slated to come online in 2025.

Analysts at Benchmark Minerals told us last year that they forecast European EV related cell demand to reach 1250 GWh by 2035, and a pipeline cell production capacity in Europe of 1155 GWh to 2035, across 30 plants."
