I just noticed that on the website there are now separate links to the "pre-owned" CPO cars for sale and the "new" (showroom demo) cars for sale. Did this just happen yesterday when the refreshed S showed up on the website? See:

Showroom demo cars for sale: Pre-Owned Model S | Tesla Motors

Used CPO cars for sale: Pre-Owned Model S | Tesla Motors

I speculate that Tesla is trying hard to sell their current showroom demo cars so they can get the refreshed S version in the showrooms.

it's always been that way. they can still call the demo cars new since they were never sold and are eligible for the federal rebate.
