Tesla Model 3 delivery is FUBAR

Someone else on the forum mentioned it here. Delivery Receipts - United Road
My take is that it will only track the initial offload from Fremont, but helpful none the less.

My guess is you're confusing Richmond, VA with Richmond, CA. Click on the Bnsf-Richmond.

i did the same thing until I checked.

Tesla scheduled delivery in Aug for my non-performance dual motor in New Jersey but i’m A New York resident and you must get the car in-state to get the tax credit. Tesla told me it could take a few days to get me reassigned to a car for my state. New delivery scheduled for Sept 21 but no VIN assigned. I think I’m going to get pushed again.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Yes, Owings Mills. I think you have good reasons to be concerned. They consistently miss delivery dates and deliver too many cars in a sorry state -- banged up, scratches in the paint, large gaps, etc. So check it throughly before you drive it away.

Fellow Marylander picking up at Owings Mills here. Yikes, I'm not surprised. I've posted my situation in other threads, but today marks four weeks since my original delivery date. I was one of the first to configure an AWD version on May 23rd. Got my VIN on 7/31 and was going to have delivery on 8/18. I still haven't seen my car. First I was told my car sustained minor damage to the front bumper during transport. That has taken multiple weeks to fix. Then at the start of this week I was told the 12V battery needs to be replaced. They can't give me any ETA for when that will be done. I've gotten no further updates since. I'm pretty frustrated to say the least. Anyone know why it would take so long to replace the 12V battery?

Mine is sitting in Richmond atm accord to the VIN delivery tracker. Delivery date is Sept. 29th. Glad I didn't organize leave. I knew this end-of-quarter rush was going to be the mother of all delivery rushes - so I'd better prepare for a delay by the looks.

Yeah VIN tracker says that as well (My Delivery is Monday) but Tyco just said delivery ETA is Tomorrow and unless the hurricane delays it everything should go as planned.

Just curious, for those of you who have been stuck in no-information, no-delivery limbo since your original appt was cancelled - have you made your full payment already?

Yes, we made our final payment and then 30 minutes later our appointment was cancelled two separate times.

Most of the these posts confirm how I described Model 3 delivery in the thread title: FUBAR. This a serious Tesla logistics management failure Why are so many deliveries late and why are some many cars delivered in a damaged state? Someone is screwing up big time.

The real problem is no one has any answers at least that I can find. The customer support specialists can only tell you that the car is built and enroute. Nothing more.

Same goes for the delivery specialists at the store. All they can do is schedule and cancel appointments...

Systematic breakdown of communication across all lines IMO.

The problem is that Tesla just doesn't do staging like big auto does. ship cars to a staging area. staging makes spot repairs to cars and distributes to dealerships and dealerships just have them on the lots when they are in a condition to be purchased. If they are made to order, they call you when it is actually ready, not before all of the standard QC checks have usually been made. I say usually because some are better than others.

I just got a call 14hrs before delivery that they neglected to bring my car down from offsite storage in ‘northern California’ to the Fremont delivery center, and would have to cancel my delivery and assign me a different car at a later date.
Wait, So rather than send someone to get the car they are assigning a new VIN? Who is running this circus? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Why are people paying BEFORE getting to see and inspect their cars? Are you all first-time buyers or something? NEVER hand over funds until you see, touch, feel, inspect, and test drive your car. If people would do that Tesla would be forced to get their act together. Once you hand over funds your leverage is GONE folks!

Unfortunately, in states that ban Tesla direct sales, you must pay for the car in full before Tesla will ship your car out.

In some respects Tesla is it's own worst enemy. Elon is worried about the short sellers, but the delivery problems give them the FUD they want.

Tesla has bigger issues to solve than a week long delivery delay. I do not agree with their strategy and priorities but there are a lot of buyers who are willing to trade some cosmetic defects that will be corrected later for the chance to drive the best midsize sedans now while getting full federal credit.

Let’s not forget what ‘fiasko’ 5 seater X was. Tesla pretty much developed it on the fly.

This is sad to hear. This is how my Model 3 delivery went:

Tesla sales: "Good news, your car is ready for delivery! When do you want to pick it up?"
Me: "April 13"
Them: "Ok, how does 11 am work?"
Me: "How about 9 am?"
Them: "Sounds good, see you at 9 am on the 13th"

I showed up on the 13th at 0845, inspected the car, told them I already knew how to operate a Tesla and was out the door in 15 minutes by my original appointment time. I think I signed one paper? Other than that they didn't give me any grief, ask me to wait, or anything.

You are correct. It is unacceptable. I am not making excuses for them but I think it is very difficult for Tesla with their current infrastructure. Maybe we should have more of an appreciation for the legacy carmaker logistics and delivery networks in comparison. This may be actually one of their biggest moats in terms of competition to startup car companies.

They just haven't adjusted well to the increased volume. I went along with a friend who was taking delivery in Owings Mills back in early August. Everything went as planned, and the car was in their side showroom with a bow on the roof. He had all the time he needed to inspect and ask questions without being rushed at all. They told me they were delivering 6 cars a day then. I stopped by there last week and it was an entirely different scene. No available parking spaces, and one of the sales people said that they are delivering 30 or more a day, and they no longer put them in the showroom - they're parked in the lot (which is fine, of course).
