Hope this isn't too off-topic, but does anyone have advice for a first-timer on the drag strip? I'm going this weekend to the street legals at auto club dragway.
Check in starts at 7 and races start at 9. There's a supercharger about 5 miles away so my plan is to turn on max battery power when I leave the house, get there a little early, and charge to 100% before I check in. I already have my own helmet from previous track days on my old car.
I have a gopro. Any suggestions on best ways to mount it to capture my runs? Any iphone apps that are useful?
Also, I've never used launch mode before (too dangerous on city streets, imo), but I'll have to find a safe place and try it at least once before hand so I know how to use it. any suggestions on most effectively using launch mode?
A few tips before you go:
1. Check with the track and see if you need long pants, long sleeve shirt, and depending on how fast your car is, a fire jacket. Of course bring a helmet
2. Supercharge to 98%-99% The last 1% takes forever, so I just leave around 98%. Don't turn on max battery until you arrive at the strip, check in and determine how long of a wait it will be until race time. Normally it's a 20-45 minute wait from arrival to racing. Turn on max battery about 5-10 minutes before it's your turn to race.
3. Turn off creep mode and set suspension to low always.
4. Launch mode is great, but it does take a bit of practice, especially when you're timing the tree (light). If you want the best ET use launch mode, however, if you want the best reaction time, don't use LM. Just hit the accelerator down as fast as possible before the light turns green.
5. Take everything out of the car. Floor mats, rear divider, car seats, charging cables, etc.
6. Increasing or decreasing tire pressures don't improve your results, so don't waste your time. Just make sure they are at recommended pressures before you race.
7. Don't drive through the water box, which is water meant to spin your tires right before the race. Instead, go around it (if you can) and do a short launch to clean and remove any moisture on the tires.
8. After you pass the finish line, use up all the remaining road for regen. Don't try to take the first turn.
9. The GoPro can really go anywhere on the car. If you're anticipating on going faster then the car you're up against, point it backwards.
Have fun!
