Tesla model Y road noise / wind noise Seeking Advice on excessive wind noise!

Hello,I'm new to the forums (this is my first post here!). I acquired a Tesla Model Y Long Range just a week ago. On the delivery day, I encountered an issue with water leaking into the trunk. The staff was apologetic, took the car in, kept it for a few days gave me a loaner, and then returned it. However, upon driving it on the highway, I noticed excessive wind noise and observed numerous scratches on the vehicle. Subsequently, I decided to schedule an appointment with the service team.

During the appointment, a technician drove the car, and I am certain that the road noise is louder than other Teslas. My dad and I compared it to the experience of sitting in a plane when traveling at speeds of 45 mph and above. I also had a Honda civic which sounds less noisy then the Model Y. The technician claims the noise is "normal." I have set up another appointment for next week as they didn't have a loaner available for me during the visit, and we needed the car. They said the loaners are first come, first serve and they removed uber credits because they had a large number of loaners for the customers to use but then they ran out.

I am uncertain about what to do next. The technician mentioned that he didn't hear any whistling noise, they said they will have someone else look over too. Eventhough, we can't hear the whistle, but we can clearly hear the wind & road noise. I have been eagerly waiting to own a Tesla for almost five years, and it's not even been a week, yet I have already encountered several problems. I would try and go to another service center but I had less than 100 mile warranty when i put in the serivce request and now its above 100 miles. I also wanted to know if someone else had these problems; Do they charge service fees if I request to test the wind noise at a different serivce center after my next appointment is over?

I anticipate your replies and thank you in advance.

Get a few free decibel meter apps for your phone and try them out and compare the results. Place the phone in the front and the back of your car and near each door, compare results.

Inspect the trunk seal in case they screwed that up.

Inspect the window glass on the hatch, perhaps they redid the SIKA Flex to adhere the glass to the hatch and screwed that up.

Inspect the roof glass, if that's where the leak was, perhaps they screwed up the sika flex on that.

Okay, Thank you so much! I'm planning on doing a demo drive on a new model y this weekend a few days before the service appointment and I will compare the sound! I think they definitely messed up with the sika flex.
I really appreciate it.

To save money Tesla doesn't use moldings around the windshields.
On my model S Plaid I filled the channel around the windshield with black marine silicone and it helped a lot with the wind noise on the highway.
I went over it twice.

Would this make it harder to replace the windshield if it gets broken? Also, can't see your pics.
.
The piano wire would maybe take a little more effort to cut the seal
but the silicone is not hard and the seam I didn't promote it with primer.
You would have to clean out the silicone but that's not hard..
Then re apply it after the windshield glue dries for 24-48 hrs.
I see my pictures ok they're links on Postimage but I'll attach them here

I guess it's not a bad idea, but I wouldn't do something like that until it's out of warranty. If you have any problem at all with your glass that's not strike related I think the SC is gonna refuse to service it under warranty.

Good luck.. I went through 4 visits and they they started trying to charge me a diagnosis fee after the 3rd one. Replaced the driver door seal and the windshield without any improvement.

My 2022 Model Y still has a lot more wind noise than my 2021 ever did. I gave up.

Other than some wind noise my windshield is perfectly fine.
There's nothing I would be claiming on my warranty.
No waves or distortion
If it gets hit by a rock then my insurance would cover it.
This fix is nothing that would cause any warranty issues..
When I got the car from Carmax it had some chips along the top of the driver front door glass.
Carmax had Safelite replace it and the guy damaged my wiring harness so the power door opener button stopped working.
I called Tesla mobile service and the tech diagnosed the problem and replaced the wiring harness at no charge using his discretion.
I was pleased and gave him some big amps and subs I wasn't using and he was very happy with that.
You guys would rather live with a problem and rely on Tesla than fix it yourselves.
Tesla owners are mostly not Modders.
I have 50k hrs of carcraft and handiwork experience.
I used to be a bodyman and painter.
I know what I'm doing.
I added laser jammers subs tweeters and midranges with level controls to beef up my system and it all works perfectly.

I sealed my windshield with masking tape to test for a leak, put a rubber grommet around the roof glass, put an extra rubber seal around all the doors, frunk, and trunk and the car still has more wind noise than the 2015 Civic I Ubered in.

Unless the noise is coming from a specific area, I'm guessing the sounds are going to be considered "normal", when driving an all glass vehicle..with a hatchback. They doubled the glass on the front doors to help address this. I've also noticed more than a few videos online offering soundproofing services. Your quietest vehicles will be a 4 door, with no roof glass. Pretty sure the 2025 will further address the sound issues.

Very true but I had a 2021 that was significantly quieter than my 2022. That's the only reason why I went to the trouble of trying to make the car have less wind noise

I tried the rubber band around the windshield and roof and it helped but kept coming out so I cut the rubber band and used it on the sides and siliconed around the windshield.
There's still some wind noise but it's significantly less.
