you realize that just driving the car away is too dangerous - it can be tracked so the superfirst thing you do as a thief is make sure there's no reporting and THEN you drive away.Root the car in 10 seconds lolololololol. Tesla introduces pin to drive especially to combat relay thefts

yet the car is still missing because it no longer reports the location, no?your insight into what exactly these thieves may or might not have done is reasonably disturbing. They were too dumb to figure out how to remove the charger, i doubt they had the intelligence to do something 99% of tesla owners don't know how to do.
Even with PIN TO DRIVE enabled you can disable Remote Access and active Tow Mode as shown in the following video I recorded. SOrry for the crappy vid, I really need a new mobile ;-)

Thieves Caught on Video Stealing Tesla With Key Fob Relay Hack - ExtremeTech. Think I'm going to request a new key fob for Lord Raiden.
Did you ever hear if Tesla is working on this?I cannot spill too many details. There's a demo video, but it's also private. Tesla was notified and I hope is working on it.
Last I heard they buffed reporters out. So... who knows.Did you ever hear if Tesla is working on this?
Do you know if rooting the vehicle is the only way for a thief to disable tracking.....or pin to drive?Last I heard they buffed reporters out. So... who knows.
no rooting is necessary to disable pin-to-drive or disable trackingDo you know if rooting the vehicle is the only way for a thief to disable tracking.....or pin to drive?

Yes, because of the external sim that's also somewhat easy to do I guess, but that's only in EU and JP and perhaps some other markets, but not in US.In Europe, thieves have been removing the SIM that permits cellular access
It's more to do with the ease of freighting the vehicles internationally (ie. to Albania ).Looks like this is an overseas issue where there's a shortage of parts and much higher fuel prices are common.
