man i can't believe the price action today.
the buying is just not letting up.
can't be just retail buying.
i'm starting to believe MMs have lots of naked shorts and are covering because of dividend-payout stock split.
also now until aug 31st it would be unwise to do naked short.
i mean there is also macro as nasdaq is up almost 300 but damn!
No, just shorts covering because of all the stuff they read here.

That was the question, thx.:D

Me 2: no options, just plain shares 100% of my account -- back in January I sold some (~20%) and bought ARKK instead, but after the Q2-ER I have reversed that so now I 'm again 100% TSLA.
Actually, I have 2 different account RRSP (registered retirement saving plan) and TFSA (tax free saving account), both are 100% TSLA. I put in some extra money each year as much my yearly limit allows and all goes into TSLA.

Honest question and I don't have an answer:

Do we usually see a +15% following a regular stock split (the idea and differences on regular stock split vs split by stock dividend is indeed intriguing) announcement? Could there be leaks about S&P 500 imminent inclusion?

The rise is accelerating... ATH this week FTW

No.

Could there be leaks about S&P 500 imminent inclusion?
Absence of proof is not proof of absence.

This is nuts! What's going on?

1. Shorts covering?
2. 5-for-1 presale?
3. FOMO?
4. Robinhooders?
5. Robotrading the upswing?
6. S&P 500 speculation?
7. Everyone loves those Gigi Austin, Gigi Berlin, and Gigi Shanghai construction porn videos?
8. ??? :D

If you think today is crazy, just wait until we see what happens the day it really goes on "sale" for 80% off!

Seems like a pretty big move for a split regardless of the powerful psychology of a split.

Whether this is shorts covering, a MM caught off guard and not capping at least for today, anticipation of inclusion, or something else is anybody’s guess. But it’s fair to say it’s something along those lines rather than simply retail enthusiasm for the split, as CNBC would like you to believe.

Although in one sense you are correct, this is not going to be the actual situation. As a shareholder I would be very angry if my $1500 in value was not available to me between the two dates because I had to wait for the dividend shares to be issued. I am confident that my broker has some sort of trick that keeps my whole $1500 continuously available. Something like "broker-backed promissory shares" will be added to my account on the first date.
Hmmm, I think broker would have to decide this, if it's important to them to keep you happy, which means they have to give you 4x 'ghost' shares for that week, i.e. they have to borrow them from someone else. I imagine this would be done by request only, as otherwise they can't borrow enough shares for everyone on their account.
If you are correct they'll do this, the same way broker can save shorts. Basically send message to anyone that lent shares that by default their newly received 4x dividend shares will be lent out immediately on the Aug 31st. And if they don't want that to happen, contact them... It could be they'll do both, to help their clients. And hence water down the whole event, i.e. squeeze, should they all do that...

It could be also that behaviour depends on the broker, so that we see different treatment of this same situation. I.e. formally, dividends have to be paid, and you don't have access to 4/5 of your capital for a week; yet broker bridges both of these situations for their clients. I don't know if their contracts allow them to establish behaviour they want in this way...

Oh, btw, after some experience with brokerages, I honestly don't think they'd care that you got upset. Announcement is giving you enough information to act before, or after that week the best way it suits you. So onus is on you to deal with the situation. And Tesla gave you notice, and Musk doesn't care about short term stock holders, he's showed that many times, and I have scares to prove it.

Another boring Tesla-spotting post from me I'm afraid. It keeps me entertained. A couple of weeks ago I mentioned the first Model 3 had arrived in my neighbourhood. I said at the time that I chatted to the owner and was surprised that he wasn't a fanboy and just leased the car through work because of the economics - saving on petrol + tax benefits. Well today I saw my second. A woman was pulling out of the road opposite in a Model 3. I didnt know if she was a visitor or resident so I walked back later, and sure enough, the car was parked at her house, so another local owner.
Also today I received notification from Tesla UK of my delivery date in September. It will be my first Tesla.
So, we will have 3 Tesla Model 3 owners literally within a 5 minute walk of one another.
I know this is no big deal for you Californians but here in Liverpool, it is really significant.
Also the share price is up quite a lot today, which is nice :)
