So what would happen in a market if Tesla leaves? Who would benefit? Almost everyone!

There is an easy solution to the Swedish situation. Tesla leaves. Almost nobody cares. Most that have any skin in the game will be happy.

Few not owning a Tesla already would care if Tesla went away. Actually getting rid of a foreign billionaire trying to force a change to a working system that he doesn't understand would be considered a great solution for many.

The market is small enough that without Teslas there would be enough other EVs to buy. The charging network would be an issue for awhile but both car makers and charging networks would love to see an EV market without Tesla. Since there is one of the highest percentage markets for EVs in the world Sweden would immediately be prioritized by every other company in the EV business. Tesla won't ever build a factory in the country anyway so there is no real incentive for politicians to try to keep Elon happy either.

Obviously in a larger market it would hurt both Tesla and the larger country. But for a 10 million people market? Hey, it could be an interesting experiment.

I still think there will be some kind of solution. But if Elon thinks he can win by threatening to leave he may not get the result he's expecting.

Nobody thinks interest rates are a key factor in Tesla share price.

Nobody except Elon. /s

In fact, TSLA current SP vs. it's ATH is a poor metric for comparison of how the stock is faring. A better metric is to compare TSLA to the broader S&P 500 index, specifically it's place in the top 10.

Indeed, TSLA is currently within 0.14 standard deviation units from it's mean weight in the S&P 500 since its addition to the NDX on Dec 18, 2020 (nearly 3 years of data).

Specifically, on the day TSLA was added to the S&P 500, it's index weight was assigned as exactly 1.686947%.

On Friday, Nov 24, 2023 (nearly 3 yrs later), TSLA was weighted at 1.696838%. That's a miniscule change of +0.59% vs the NDX.

Yet TSLA's beta is 2.26x (how much it moves compared to the rest of the index). About half of all Options volume on the CBOE is either betting for or against TSLA. That's all you need to know to understand exactly how Wall St. views TSLA.

Hint: it's their Casino to rig.

More than 10% of all new cars sold in Sweden in September were Model Ys. Model 3 was also in the top 10 best sellers.

Seems like new car buyers might care.

Gigafactories ahoy!

Eh, don't get TOO excited, the last 5 billion factory was announced 8 months ago and they still haven't broken ground or announced a date to do so.

Rumor has it: Tesla Manager Reveals the Cybertruck Has a 123KWh Battery Pack

I'm not going to link to a specific site because the source is uncredited and unverifiable.

Another Rumor: All Cybertruck deliveries will be dual motor to start. Trimotor should start to ship in Q2 or Q3 2024. All 20 trucks on display right now across the US are dual motor.

Very informative thread on the shape of the cybertruck and why it looks better in person than on a flat image.

I'm not going to try and copy all the pictures here but it's worth going to see as they illustrate each of these quotes.

I just saw the Cybertruck at Tesla, Boston …Many have reported on its appearance, but as a sculptor and mechanical engineer, I noticed some things that I have not seen discussed elsewhere. It’s a far more complex and sophisticated design than one may suspect from online images. Perhaps that’s why “you have to see it in real life” before drawing conclusions?
The Greeks understood “entasis”, that is, that straight, cylindrical columns look weaker than ones that slightly bulge. For strength, aerodynamics, and aesthetics, Franz and his design team took advantage of this concept. For example, the sides of the Cybertruck are NOT straight along the “belt line” crease, rather the front quarter-panel, the two door panels, and the rear quarter-panel form a 4 segment “curve”.
And speaking of curves, there are many curves on the Cybertruck! The front bumper is curved over most of its width; both the stainless and the rubber.
The hood is curved, not only the front edge, but the entire surface. It’s not a flat, “low poly” shape. It’s subtly shaped like a fingernail.
The windshield is also curved, it’s not flat. That not only makes it look better, but it’s also stronger and it won’t flash like a signaling mirror.
The side windows are curved:
Those all appear to be simple curves. In fact, all of the stainless steel is either flat or simple curves. We expected this because forming the thick, ultra-hard metal into a compound curve would be extremely difficult. That said, the glass roof appears to have a subtle COMPOUND curve! This makes it much stronger, more aerodynamic, and it even provides a little more interior volume.
Anyway, those are just a few of my shape observations about the vehicle. The bottom line is that it’s a lot more sophisticated and robust looking than it appears in photos, primarily due to all of the subtle, convex curvature. To paraphrase Michelangelo, “A good sculpture should be able to roll down a hill without breaking.” 😂 It’s a very impressive piece of design work and I can see why producing it is a challenge.

Strike breaking in Sweden, which is essentially what Tesla is doing, is frowned upon in Sweden. So, in that sense the Tesla image may be "bad."

But yeah, the union is essentially saying "We will stop torturing your kids (customers) as soon as you give us the combination to the safe (sign the collective agreement)". And they don't see anything wrong with that. o_O

I'm glad the courts have at least granted a temporary injunction so Tesla can continue to get license plates so they can deliver vehicles in Sweden. Hopefully the union comes to their senses.

Otherwise, Tesla may have spend more if they want to stay in Sweden. (They would have to open more service, and collision, centers that were all non-union. Especially to cover things that people don't normally come to Tesla for, for example winter tire change overs.) In the end it may be positive for Tesla as they would get more revenue in Sweden by doing everything themselves, but it may come at a cost of increased overhead especially for logistics.
Now that Elon is fully aware, perhaps he’ll be flying to Sweden at some point and talking to someone higher up the food chain.

Eh, don't get TOO excited, the last 5 billion factory was announced 8 months ago and they still haven't broken ground or announced a date to do so.
The construction pipeline seems to be getting gigantic with announced expansions (Mexico, Nevada phase 2, Berlin phase 2, Texas continued ramp), convincing rumours (India), and a couple of outliers (Thailand, Europe second location, China second location). The back end of the 2020s is likely going to have more than one factory coming online each year.

The physical plans to reach 20m units/yr by 2030 is getting much more clear. Tesla might miss the deadline by a couple of years but the capacity rollout but the path can be seen.

Looks like Tesla might get some extra demand in Germany for December (but less early next year) - due to the supreme court declaring the planned budget for 2024 illegal (due to repurposing funds that were meant for covid relief), the government incentives (Umweltbonus) of currently 4500 EUR which were planned to be reduced to 3000 EUR might drop to zero instead. Nothing has been decided yet, but possibly even the uncertainty might push some people to buy sooner rather than later. From Tesla´s point of view it would probably be the best outcome if it is decided only last minute that the Umweltbonus will continue. The delivery times for Model Y and Model 3 are currently listed as 2-3 and 2-6 weeks respectively.
