Tracking Model S 85D Delivery Thread

Talked with my DS today. Mine is finishing production (I didn't know it was in production) in the next couple days, shipped via rail to Chicago, then covered truck to Eden Prairie, MN and final fixing up at the Service Center there. I am hoping to see it in three or four weeks.
As a reminder:
I ordered originally in Aug an 85, switched to 85D in mid October. On the site it originally said Dec for the 85, moved to late February for the 85D for awhile, then maybe 4 to 6 weeks ago switched to March. It will be done with production in the first few days of March. Then the wait for over a couple thousand miles for delivery with two stops (train to truck to SC).

I diverted my delivery from Watertown, MA to Oregon for the purpose of facilitating a cross-country road trip. No sales tax in Oregon. Of course, I still need to pay MA tax. I will drive to Fremont for a factory tour, then on to Boston. My Watertown Delivery Experience Specialist says that he has accommodated this more than once.

So, do you have to pay the california tax and your state tax too? When I ask my Tesla rep they didn't mention you could some how reclaim the CA tax. I would be willing pay the CA Tax if I could get the tax difference back later.
That's my understanding, yes, but it's all second-hand from stuff I've read here on TMC and I wasn't paying close attention since a factory pickup was never in the cards for me. If you're serious about it you could troll through the forums looking for info, or you could just ask your DS (probably easier).

I just flipped into "in production"! Order was finalized 11/11/14. Delivery is showing as "late March" which is also what DS says (though he put it as "mid-to-late"). My original estimate was "February" with the DS saying "or maybe late January".
... and now I'm back to "order confirmed". I doubt this is anything other than the dashboard being incredibly hinky -- as someone else said recently, it seems like the whole thing is driven by an Excel spreadsheet and sneakernet.

We talked with our DS about it and that's the long and short. You pay CA sales tax regardless of where you are and there's no reimbursement otherwise(at least for WA).

I have first hand knowledge of this since I did it with my last car:

There is an export permit in California. You can get an export permit from the state of California, certifying that the vehicle will leave the state in 10 days. No plates will be issued. No sales tax will be charged. The catch? The vehicle can never touch the pavement of a California road. It's strictly allowed to be loaded on a hauler and taken out. Touch the pavement, and you'll pay not only sales tax, registration, but also hefty fines.

When the car arrives in your home state, you will then pay "use" tax on the car instead of sales tax. Guess what? It's probabaly the same amount of money as your state sales tax. This will most likely be charged to any car that's less than 6 months old when you register it. Many states will waive this if you can prove you paid a higher sales tax in the originating state.

Theres no cheating the government, and there's certainly no cheating California. Get your car at home. Drive on over and see the factory.

First off, let me say that I'm not mad with anyone, just frustrated. I don't know that I've ever had the anticipation that I'm having for my Tesla. I read the forums everyday and check mytesla 10-15 times a day. I've visited the tesla store at the mall at least 20 times since I placed my order 10/17/2014. I'm really having a hard time though reading about others that have either gotten their delivery already, or those going into production before me. Even though rationally I know that my wait won't be much longer, I get frustrated to see people ordering after me farther along in delivery process. I know there reasons for the order of production that I'm not privy to, but it feels like people are getting to jump in front of me in line.
OK, Rant Over.
This car is going to rock......... Eventually!

Lol....I feel your pain also.....I confirmed about a week after you and my deliver has been pushed to late march.

I took delivery today and I now have a Tesla grin! The S85D drives beautifully. It has outstanding speed (I personally think that the P85D would be a waste for me). I drove the car a little on the highway and a bit around town today. The car is absolutely a pleasure to drive. It may take me a while to get used to driving a car that is just so quiet. Below are just a few quick thoughts about the delivery experience and the car:
DES Team: The DES team in Rockville was helpful, thorough and very easy to work with throughout my order process starting in July and they were great today. In addition, [email protected] also received his delivery at the same time and he was kind enough to help with my inspection, etc. Super guy. I have a feeling he will love driving this car all the back down to Florida.
Front and Rear Consoles: I ordered the front console which was installed when I arrived. I also ordered the brand new rear console and brought it with me. The Rockville team had not seen one yet and they installed it for me very easily. While they are both expensive options, but I think they will make the car seem more finished and more "normal" to me. I think the quality of both is very high. I have an android phone (Samsung S5) and I have to remove the after market case if I want to use the built in charger.
Paint/Opticoat: I am not planning to get OptiCoat or other paint treatments and I let them delivery the car with their normal prep. I think the paint looked great.
EZ Pass: I was informed by DES that in the newest production cars, EZ Pass is not going to work against the windshield and it won't work consistently behind the front nose cone. He recommended that I order the license plate attachment version from EZ Pass - which I intend to this week. They offered to assist me with it if/when I come back to the SC to have them attach the license plates (MD) when I get them in the next 30 days. This is pushing me towards having them drill and attach the front plate.
Slacker Radio and Tesla App: I was informed that both would be available tomorrow. I found that they both became available this evening. My car is charging right now on our NEMA 14/50 charger at a rate of 30 mi/hr 233 v 40/40A.
Tesla has produced an outstanding sedan and I feel very lucky to be able to drive one.
Good luck to those of you that are expecting your deliveries soon and to those of you that are a little further out. I think you will all agree that it is worth the wait.

I understand and have felt the same. I, instead, don't go and look so I don't have to think about it. I am pretty certain P85Ds get made more quickly than others for a number of reasons, that some organization happens with orders that helps Tesla (which is fine with me; for example, I imagine a group of cars will be shipped to Chicago and mine will be a part of that and it would be more expensive to do it otherwise and if I am the first of that group I have to wait for the group to be done to ship) but this way of working does lead to ordering of production and shipment not as FIFO (First In First Out) for us, the buyer. We would not have know any of this without the type of communication we have today and a thread like this. I think it all goes to the good of the company trying its best to provide the best service they can. My 2 cents.

Order confirmed Feb 19 2015. vin:78419 on feb 23 2015. est delivery: late april. no more news since.
19" Wheels, 85 kWh Model S, All-Wheel Drive Dual Motor, Black Textile Seats, Body Color Roof, Dual Chargers, Piano Black Décor, Smart Air Suspension, Supercharger Enabled, Tech Package with Autopilot, Ultra High Fidelity Sound, White Alcantara Headliner, White Solid Paint.

That would explain a lot. His (DES) guesstimate was for 2nd week of March. From what I can gather, he's completely overwhelmed right now (only one SC in Quebec, Canada.. and only one DES at that SC) so he probably does not have the time to update this. With the D, they probably got a significant increase in order numbers as AWD cars are prefered by most people here.

18 days of "In production". My DES told me he would contact the factory to find out what's up with my car. I hope to get an update today.

On a more positive note, we've just experienced the coldest February of the last 115years in here (Quebec, Canada). We were below freezing the whole month.. last time this happened was in 1978 lol. I had to do a 320km roadtrip last weekend to my cottage house (where my electrical installation is not completed).. glad I stil had my ICE.

Well over the weekend, some of you may have noticed that the NextGen seats are available as an option for all builds not just the "P". So I contacted my DS and the sales manager to see if I can option the seats in. Sort of a double edged sword. I can't get the seats as my car is slated for production start within the next 48 hours. I'm quite happy to hear that production is imminent and the seats really weren't that important for me anyway.

Thanks for that info Griffinlar
I spoke with My DS last week and he advised that My car hasn't started production yet and the estimated delivery is now the last week in March.
I didn't know about the Next generation seats being added to the options for the 85D. Its a good thing that I keep in touch with this forum. I just called My DS and left him a voicemail to add the Tan Next Gen seats and the Black Alcantara headliner to my car. I await his response. I am optimistic, but you never know.
