I thought that opening was for the subwoofer to get its sound from the trunk to the interior.

I have the premium interior and no hole - solid metal. So, not a subwoofer hole..

They changed it at some point. I remember some discussion on that. I have a Sept 2018 build and there was at hole at that point. It does let a lot of sound from the trunk into the cabin of the car.

What I've seen so far is that the first cars just had a hole, then they were filled with a mesh, and then there was sort of a cardboard material... Now since recently it's fully closed and just metal, no hole.

5th December I take delivery of my P3D+ will report back.

I though the hole was to let light into the trunk, so you can see things in there easier during the day because the trunk lights aren't bright enough during daylight.

I asked because here's mine, mfg'd 4/19. Funny, Tesla can't put carpet mats in the car, but can put them in the top of the trunk

Try driving around with your rear seats laid down... there's some noise to talk about! My Kia Optima is quieter.

I pulled the trigger on it for $50 since I already wanted something to cover up some of the screws and sharp metal on the underside of my 6/18 trunk when car camping. Added benefit of making it look a lot more finished but cant say i notice any noticeable noise improvement. Maybe the effect is larger sitting in the rear but I've never done that.

They ship it folded just like the front fender liners and frunk and lower trunk inserts made of the same material.

I think mine was folded, once, in a flattish cardboard box. Most of the stuff like that comes in a woven plastic manila pouch.

I have many times while carrying large items, I agree that something needs to be done about excessive road noise, my understanding is that later builds are getting more treatment to make them quieter, how much I'm not sure.

I hear things rattling around from the trunk frequently and normally I don't have more than a lunch bag and a laptop bag back there. I have even heard the zippers on my bag rattling from back there.

Would one of these products help?

It seems that Tesla went through an awful lot of trouble to omit this opening they used to have.... definitely curious what the logic was in changing that.
