Hmmmm, given that this is paint, that would seem to suggest overall run rate really is at >7k/week, not just individual parts as previously suggested. Can’t paint anything unless you have the entire car otherwise completed, right?

I doubt they are painting battery packs, drive units, or even seats, steering wheels, monitors etc.
My point is: painting is only for the body and happens before final assembly of all parts, so it does not imply complete car output.

Hi folks,

After this little 1 day break, I'd like to pause to recognize a few things:
  • 7 trading sessions ago, you could buy shares in TSLA for $325
  • The last 2 sessions, smart traders were buying the 'dips' near $352
  • Over those 7 days, NASDAQ is down (-1.7%), TSLA is up (3.4%)
  • That's a +5.1% divergence for TSLA over the Macros.
TL;dr: TSLA good. :D

CH3ERS!

OT :

This is not as big a deal as some people think. First of all, sometimes people spread fake news to benefit from market swings. Let's assume this is real for now, if Huawei indeed violated the Iran sanction, there will be a consequence (they can't sell equipment to Iran if their equipment have chips from the US). If Huawei didn't violate anything, then it will be sorted out. Either way it will be sorted out.
Really - how can Canada arrest someone for that ?

Lets say KSA had a law about not selling anything to Israel. If an American company that uses KSA oil, sells something to Israel - can Jordan arrest the CFO of the company and ship him to KSA ?

Tesla is on pace to begin production at its factory in China in the second half of next year, the Shanghai government said Wednesday.

Land leveling is basically complete and construction is about to begin, with the factory expected to be put partially into operation in the second half of 2019, according to an official WeChat post from the government. The article described a visit by Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong and Vice Mayor Wu Qing.

Tesla did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

In mid-October, Tesla officially acquired an 864,885-square meterplot in Shanghai’s Lingang area for the electric car maker’s first factory outside the U.S.

Elon Musk’s company has also launched an official WeChat account for hiring locals.

Producing in China, the world’s largest market for electric vehicles, would allow Tesla to reduce costs significantly. The company has said it is operating at a 55 percent to 60 percent cost disadvantage with a domestic peer due to ocean transport costs and tariffs.

Apparently the Arrest occurred on Saturday, and both US & China governments have been aware since then - so since there wasn’t any immediate reactions maybe the situation isn’t going to spark anything too serious.

Nevertheless, those trading stock index futures are panicking and keep pushing them down. Currently they're down nearly 2%.

OT Brexit
Pretty much the only major industry that is going to benefit from Brexit will be Fleet Street and the Murdochs, who will avoid burdensome bureaucratic EU regulations like "do not monopolize the media" and "tell the truth". ;)

(Also Putin, who'll again command the third largest European economy after delegating the U.K. to fourth-fifth place via helping a low cost disinformation campaign. Best bang for bucks ratio if you are into chaos and dystopian outcomes.)
Please... do not make references to Putin commanding anything. He ruined his country in building a corrupt "vertical of power" destroying a free market and making everybody dependent on government handouts to ensure voting outcomes, but people are getting increasingly impoverished and don't buy the propaganda anymore. He does not enjoy the majority support anymore that he used to have. Even his most bold supporters are questioning the country's direction and personal costs to them (sanctions and drop in the quality of life and income levels). Nobody will protect Putin if there's any commotion, he'll be let to fall down easily. What he stands for is expired right now as nobody in the world wishes to talk to him, but he may be able to make it to his physical expiration just because people do not want to start a bloody coup that will cause a loss of life to many others. The country is his personal criminal enterprise right now with profits going directly to him and his close circle of friends. As a result, to maximize profits everything non-productive short-term was run into the ground - education, medicine, science. He's like the most destructive force that happened to the country in a very long time.
All he stands for has been proven wrong and it is just a matter of time before he and his system falls to its knees. There is nothing here to admire and forecast a decent future for. Btw, the oil&natural gas fueled economy is about to crash as well, on the same time horizon as his physical well-being perspectives. As we all know, the renewable energy will win. He is a fossil, same as his fossil fueled economy.

What does this have to do with tsla?

I can understand for Hauwei its a big deal. Why would it affect the stock market as a whole ? Are they thinking this will lead to some US - China trade war escalation ?

This is a good one to reverse conceptually to get a sense of the view from the other side. Pretend that Deepak is on a visit to Sth Korea. On the Saturday he is arrested, pending extradition to China. On the Tuesday night the news breaks. His hearing is scheduled for the Friday. Until then he is in custody. The charge is "suspicion of breaking trade sanctions"... I think that would cause a bit of a stir.

Having read more about it - it looks like this is an ongoing thing - with DOJ alleging that several companies are exporting US technology to Iran. ZTE paid a billion dollar to settle the case with DOJ. Skycom has been accused of the same practice and the CFO used to be on Skycom's board.
