Ugly Wood Trim Strip

I'm a Model S owner and love everything about my car and have no complaints whatsoever about Tesla or my awesome car.

I'm a very early 3 reservationist and won't have many configuration options which is fine. I'm excited about the Model 3 and know it will be an amazing, game changing vehicle. With that said, I'd like to take a poll regarding that light colored(probably a $1 part) trim piece.

I love the look of the Model 3, I want rear wheel drive, would prob choose black interior anyhow, solid roof is cool etc. but dang that light colored wood strip trim piece wheel is so bugly. What do other reservationists think about that wood trim?

I will be wrapping/painting or covering it in some way. If the only option is wood. It just doesn't seem to blend in like it belongs. The alpha had a white leather that looks alright

I personally like the wood strip, but would prefer a more realistic look that doesn't look washed out. A nice redwood color for me .
Others may like the carbon fibre look, ,,etc
There's always the after market too

If Tesla has no options other than the wood the aftermarket will be all over it. CF, piano black, brushed stainless, wraps, decals etc.
How about an instrument cluster decal for behind the wheel............JK!

The wood shown so far is too light for me and I worry about the glare reflected from it into the driver's eyes.

Nice thing about such a plain, open canvas is it looks very easy to wrap.

The Model S has always had a wood strip as an option. Is your only complaint that the wood is too light?

More often than not, one would questions another's choice when it is different to theirs. You get a choice and if that's different to what I like you better explain exactly what you like and why you like that

I kind of like the wood. It could be a little darker, but it doesn't bother me all that much. I'd rather have it there than just another piece of grayish/black plastic.

To me, the wood on the dash is taking a play out the BMW i3's playbook.

FWIW...I like the dark walnut, vertically oriented trim on the dash of my MB B-class, adds a lush look without glare. The light wood we've seen so far looks pre-sun faded and is almost horizontal which I think might create reflected glare.

I suspect that this would be a very popular 3rd party / aftermarket "fix". Especially with 400k+ reservations, I think it is a real opportunity for companies! Name another car with passionate buyers who will spend money to personalize their vehicle with that many potential sales...
I will probably want carbon fiber for mine....

For me, the wood speaks to an earlier time when cars were actually made with wooden parts. That time is long gone, which is why I ordered carbon fiber in my Model S. If wood is the only option for Model 3, then I'll wrap it.

My preference is carbon fiber, which I think will be on the Performance models, along with 20" wheels

I wonder if it'll be possible to restain the trim a darker color? The lighter color (at least from the RC photos) makes it look like wood-grain vinyl. I'd still like to see it in real life, though, before passing final judgment on whether it looks tasteful or tacky.
