Upset that Tesla screwed customers who took delivery in the last few months

Actually what’s selfish is people making comments about a thread where people have the right to complain as their brand screwed them. What’s funny is that those claiming to understand capitalism sure don’t understand capitalism. What happened at Tesla recently wasn’t capitalism it was socialism. The government substadizing credits with forced requirements is what caused this. If you delete the new tax rebates he wouldn’t have changed prices and screwed over every customer he has ever had prior to 2023.

This is why msrp exists. Discounts at the dealers don’t destabilize the used car markets but msrp changes will. That’s why prices rises because msrp went up. No dealer has decreased the msrp of their cars. Show us one that dropped the msrp recently, let alone one that dropped for more than 5k…. Ill be waiting. People have a right to complain when a cars value turned into the stock market. It’s never happened before. Ever.

We will Never forget his own words. Tesla vehicles are now 'appreciating assets' due to self-driving capability, says Elon Musk
He also said this (from earlier post):
And George Strait said something about "Oceanfront property in Arizona"........

Yea but he Always raised prices in small increments. Never dropped a car by 8 or 13k. Big difference. If he had dropped the price incrementally people would understand. Not dropping that much over night, on top of changing the MSRP of the car. No manufacture has ever done what he did and never would. It would destroy the brand.

Still waiting for people to post msrp drops of other cars on 2023… let alone one that dropped 5k or more. Still waiting… Nothing changes the fact that he screwed his customer base and reputations. Nothing changes the fact that no other dealer did anything like this EVER. A dealers that disrupts their use car market would be self destruction. It’s why we have an MSRP and why discounts are done in private to not screw with the used prices.

Sell the car. Go buy a competitor. It'll be much healthier for you.

excellent point that many of the Elon acolytes don’t seem to understand. Tesla could have lowered prices or offered discounts even steeply in a way that doesn’t burn their existing customers.
I think the only way they could pull this off better is to have introduced the newly updated 2023 Tesla as a whole new car without features and therefore that justifies the price drop. Then everyone can say they have the 2022 for the higher price.. so the price is justified. That’s a tricky thing to time along with the ev tax credit window. Seems like they almost did that with the m3lr

Not wrong. Why is it that all these trolls refuse to post other car manufactures showing msrp drops of 5+ K this month or ever in their existence??? It’s because it doesn’t exist. What Elon did is a first and destroyed his decade of reputation over night.

Plenty of cars get marked down by 5k+, but you seem to think that even if you can get a new car for 5k under sticker that MSRP will magically keep used values high. Not how it works.

As to car manufacturers reducing MSRP, show me the other car manufacturers that are doing direct to consumer sales so we can compare apples and apples. Oh wait, the only ones that exist are small EV companies with no scale.

Ignoring all of that, MSRPs do get reduced.

Last summer, Chevrolet significantly lowered prices for the 2023 Bolt and Bolt EUV, cutting about $6,000 per model. But the price increased in January 2023, with the Bolt EV now starting at $27,495—still undercutting the Nissan Leaf by $545. This brings the starting price to $26,595 and $28,195, respectively. (Even with the increase, that’s $10,000 less than the Bolt from 2017.)

Previously, the Hyundai Kona Electric saw its base price lower from $37,390 to $34,000 for the 2022 model year, as newer Hyundai/Kia EVs charged into dealerships. The Nissan Leaf dropped from $31,670 to $27,400 for 2022, and it streamlined from five trims to two, the S and SV Plus, for 2023.

Why are people “trolls” because they don’t agree with you? And these are different times so just because it may not have been done before doesn’t make it the wrong move.
Because most comments by existing owners who were not impacted are of the form "I was not impacted by this and I am glad I am not impacted by this (or I was still smart enough to get the $7500 discount) but sucks to be you and I have no sympathy for you so suck it up. And also to the moon!"

I’ve marked down a handful of i4’s by $5,000 or more in the last few months.
Exactly!!!!! You marked it down at the dealer, the dealer alone is taking the loss of profit or loss from the sale: Your discount to an individual has zero effect on the used market because the used market follows msrp the depreciates from there. What Tesla did not only hurt recent year car values but every Tesla car value ever sold.

Costco Price Adjustment Policy
For members other than resellers, only purchases made within 30 days prior to a change in price and within applicable promotional item limits, are eligible for a price adjustment.

NOT gonna happen with Tesla or regular auto stealerships.
Costco is not a car dealer they don’t post the msrp on every item in their store and show the markup like dealers are required to do by law.

Auto registrations and sale prices do play a factor into resale, Believe it not.

Can we all acknowledge this sucks for buyers in 2022 and move on? Also, are we not going to talk about everyone gloating about their reservation price being “$4-8k cheaper than current reservations” when prices were only going up?

Seems like a double standard. Can’t have your cake and eat it too. My thoughts for what they’re worth.
Yeah, it does suck. It will have an impact on everyone’s resale value. But I take comfort in the fact that Musk just stuck a big green weenie right up Biden’s and the legacy automakers who have openly conspired to exclude Teslas from nearly every rebate and incentive out there. This checkmate will price Teslas much more competitively and drive sales up while decimating sales of the legacies. Booyah!
