Well, I refused delivery :(

Hahahahahaha, yeah.....

You may be able to negotiate something with the management at the DC but I doubt it at this point. The time to raise this would have been when you rejected delivery.

Help me out here, why is it too late? A new car hasn't been delivered yet. They should want to make it "right", I would think, and make up for less-than-Tesla-like customer experience.

So I was all set to pick up my M3D yesterday.

First I got a call in the morning that the car failed a technical inspection and a part may need to be ordered so my delivery was cancelled for the day. Which was extremely disappointing.

Upon asking for clarification, I was told they updated the car in the morning with the lastest firmware and apparently it freaked out and they thought the MCU chip was bad and they will have to order a new one.

My original delivery was scheduled for 4 pm. At about 2 pm I get a phone call from the service center that they decided to do a full software reinstall and apparently it resolved the issue. I was told they could have the car ready at 5:30 pm if I wanted to pick it up today still. The problem is I am nearly 3 hours from the service center. I wanted my car now so I grabbed the wife and kids and rushed out the door to get there in time. We hit some traffic so actually got there about 5:45 pm.

Once we arrived the guy in the showroom said he would notify our delivery specialist that we have arrived. So while we waited, the family checked out the cars in the showroom. Kids loved the X; I finally sat in a Model 3 for the first time. This took about 30 minutes or so. I did not hear a word yet. We decided to sit down and wait. Shortly after sitting my delivery specialist came up and said that upon final detail they noticed a paint issue on the front bumper that they were going to buff out. She said it should take about a half and wanted to confirm that we wanted to wait. Of course I said yes.

So by this time it was about 6:30 pm and the kids were getting hungry. We told the delivery specialist that we were going to walk to the fast food place across the street to get some dinner. We got back to the service center a little after 7 and was told they are still working on it.

About 7:30 the service center manager came out (Really nice guy) and said that they identified a “texture” issue on the front bumper. They have been buffing it for an hour and it really hasn’t improved. He wanted to show me the issue and get feedback from me and discuss options.

Basically, it looked like the bumper wasn’t clean before they clear coated it. It had bumps you could physically feel and caused the light to refract differently. It was obvious buffing wasn’t going to fix it as it was below the clear coat.

I was given the option of accepting it as is, have Tesla work with a local body shop to fix the issue which would most likely include repainting the front quarter of the car, or get a new vin. I decided I couldn’t live with accepting the car as is or having a brand new car repainted. So I reluctantly opted for a new vin knowing I would not receive my car for a while longer.

We left to go home about 8:30 pm empty handed and very disappointed. Service manager said it will take about 3 weeks for redelivery which doesn’t sound horrible considering is was going to be 1-2 weeks to have a body shop repair it.

For those who have refused cars, how long has it taken for the second delivery?

Once again the service center did and excellent job. I just wish they would had seen it before we drove their. The car should had not made it out of Fremont. :(
I can sympathize. I was supposed to take delivery of my M3 in Cleveland on 8/24. I arrived to look at my new car only to see that it had paint bubbles in multiple areas (they called them "fish eyes"). I had the same option...take delivery and schedule a new paint job with a local company or have Tesla assign me a new VIN. I opted for a new car and I am currently in a holding pattern waiting on a new VIN.

It's too late because the remedy has already been agreed. Once the OP agreed he would take another VIN and no other compensation was agreed that is the agreement, he gets another VIN / car. He doesn't have to take the next car either and can try to leverage that in to some form of compensation, and depending on the SC / DC they may agree, never hurts to ask.

I am curious, do you own a Tesla? This is exactly the Tesla Customer Experience unfortunately.... My new Model 3 Performance will be delivered without the correct pedals, no spoiler and no badges and that is actually their plan.

What does SC/DC mean?

I almost had my TM3 delivered but was forced to refuse two weeks ago. My experience has been nothing but professional (albeit unfortunate). And they have made special accommodation for me one week after I refused, while I wait for new one to be delivered. I get the sense that they do want to make this right.

Did they give you a loaner or make some other transportation arrangement? I'm flying to Cleveland to take delivery on my way back from a business trip and would hate to be stuck there with a refused delivery.

Well I am supposed to take delivery on my M3 on Thursday and went to check it out at the DS today only to find this defect. Its like there are Nerds on the body and can almost cut my finger running them over it. Has anyone else had this issue?

Contamination from building cars in the tent and the air particles flying all over the place? And they don’t clean it before taking it to the paint shop?

This is not tent related and happens to every manufacturer. When I was younger and in college I worked for a summer on the line in the paint shop for Chrysler and my main job was sanding out contaminants and imperfections after the paint had cured. Some cars would come out littered with contaminants and had to be flagged for complete rework. My point is no paint job is perfect, tent or no tent. In addition I believe the tent is general assembly which means they have already been painted prior to arrival at the tent.

Yeah, that is way worse than the issue with mine. Had my car had that it would have been a simple decision. Good luck with the remedy.
