What exactly is the point of the trunk buttons to unlatch the rear seats?

They don’t swing down like they do in the Y so you still have to walk over and push the seats down. But if you have to walk up to the seats anyway you might as well just press the unlatch buttons on the seats themselves. So what exactly is the point of the buttons in the trunk?

They were supposed to be spring activated like the Model Y but, as well know, the Model S was rushed out the door with many things left unfinished (articulating center screen, heated windshield, new headlights/tail lights, true-ANC, etc).

This was simply another casualty of their timeline.

Which is strange because no one was rushing them to do the refresh. They could have continued making the old model until the new one was finished.

I can only imagine they felt rushed by the competition. Mercedes and Lucid were unveiling their flagship EV’s around that time if I recall. But no one was coming to market.

So who knows why they chose the timeline they did? They couldn’t even wait a few months to get the proper headlights in the MS. So something was pushing them.

Whatever reason it was obviously seemed to have been a good call. The refreshed S (and X) with or without the different lights have been a big hit.

You can also reach through the trunk and push them if you have enough mobility/height.

You can push the seats down with whatever you are putting in the car that requires the seats be folded down. (Assuming it is strong enough.)
