Honestly I'd say the tech. I've always been a sucker for new sexy technology, had iPhone since the original iPhone on day 1.

Model 3 is the next step in automotive industry, a shake up of otherwise stagnant field, a car redesigned. I'm not a big motorhead, altho I like to drive, but always thought of cars as means of getting from A to B, maybe transporting some cargo. I've never cared too much about my cars and always bought used and whenever they needed some work I just drove to local service guy to do whatever he needed doing. I really don't like things that require maintenance.

Model 3 looks like a great car for a person like me, with little required maintenance. Just what a car in 21st century should look like.

BTW, even though Elon has been downplaying it I really think Model 3 is the next-gen Tesla. Just look at the screen, the vents, the unlocking system and others. This stuff is next-gen. Sure, it might not have few luxury features of S/X (or performance), but the tech inside the car feels superior to me.

Not getting a Model 3 (I'm quite happy with my Roadster), but answering for EVs in general...

In the back of my mind, I wonder what sort of long-term risk I exposed my kids to, driving them around in my leaded-gas oil-burning Datsun 240Z when they were young. The cars driving behind us probably got the worst of it, but some of the exhaust presumably leaked in to some degree. I'd never want to do that again.

So, cleaning up the planet is a nice goal, but cleaning up the (very) local environment is much more important to me now.

Please choose your Primary reason for choosing a Tesla vehicle and feel free to discuss.
1. Tesla is the only maker providing a Super Charger Network, other EV can basically only be used around town.
2. My current car is stick shift, and my wife want an automatic, but I don't like to drive automatic cars,
because you cannot downshift to use the correct gear, and automatic constantly change gear all the time
up and down especially when driving a curving road which make me nuts.
3. Best compromise is to get a new car with a single gear, thus going electric!

So going Electric, then only Tesla because of the SCN, and then M 3 is the only I can afford,
however I would prefer waiting for the Model Y because I don't like sedans and want a hatch back,
a CPO model S is too big to drive and park in a city like San Francisco.

Before Tesla the choice between cars was all about style, color, and price. We will get back to that playing field eventually once there are multiple marques making EV’s but until the choice is all about the battery. What follows from that choice, torque, silence, safety, full daily charge, etc. is pretty sweet.

I have wanted a Tesla since the Roadster and have simply never been able to afford one until the Model 3. I believe in their mission, like their approach, I look up to Elon as a visionary and want to support their goals. Plus I love tech, gadgets, batteries, solar, screens, etc so a Tesla vehicle is right up my alley regardless.

I bought a 2010 Prius and enjoyed every one of the 150,000 miles. Absolutely ..... no issues or problems.
I next bought a 2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid and I am enjoying every one of the 60,000 miles. Absolutely no issues.

I will never own another pure ICE vehicle. I'm committed to hybrids... and the EV is the next logical step.

By brother owns an Tesla S and he tells me it is the finest vehicle he has a ever owned.

I am not into "performance;" I will be too late to get tax incentives; not motivated for environmental reasons; status is a non-starter; so that leaves technology. I am not anti-any of the above, but will accept them as side-benefits of the technology motive.

I voted for Economics, but my reason is actually a mix of everything else. It's economics for me not just because of the tax credit and rebates. My house has solar system so driving EV is definitely cheaper than ICE. After driving an EV for 3 years, I definitely like how the EV drives more than ICE. And last but not least, Tesla is the only manufacturer offers a long range EV starting at $35k and the car looks HOT!

I already own a Model S, so I guess I wouldn't choose any of the first options. I picked "other", and my reason would be the "promised" (okay, not the right word -- maybe suggested? Implied?) towing ability. The Model S doesn't have it, and I want it, but not for the $60K it would cost to change to a MX.

I've wanted to drive on sunpower ever since I gave up 20+ years of bicycle commuting in the city for the peace, quiet and wildlife-as-neighbors of the mountains — at the cost of having to drive to get anywhere. The obvious solution was an EV and solar panels, although it was a long time coming. I'm not the first to say it: EV + PV = Bliss!

I love my P85D but I prefer a smaller car. If my Model 3 will sacrifice nothing much compared with my model S I'll take it. If I must sacrifice anything of substance in technology or features I'll buy a new S.

My answer is simply that the Model 3 is smaller than the Model S.

I have a nagging suspicion that this isn't an option everywhere you travel.... or maybe you just do very little travel.
I have travelled >200,000 air miles so far this year, rather more than most people, I suspect.

Indeed, Turo Tesla's are not everywhere. In Estonia, for example there is a local company that rents Tesla, but not Turo. I have thus far found my Tesla rentals in the following: US (BOS, LAX, SFO, DCA, JFK, ORD) UK (LHR), Netherlands (AMS), France (CDG, NCE), Italy (MXP) and some others.

In most countries in which Tesla operates there is some Tesla rental. Major car rental companies including Sixt, Hertz and Enterprise have Tesla car in some locations and specialist firms do in many other areas.

Thus far I have not found Tesla rentals anyplace in Africa and in Asia only
have found them in Japan and China in a small number of cities each. I have not used rental cars recently in either country since my recent destinations of Tokyo and Shanghai are more amenable to public transport than private cars.

Within the next year availability will rise rapidly in my opinion as Model 3 becomes more widely available.

Finally, Model S and X are not cheap to rent; they are pretty expensive cars after all. In my dozen or so rentals there is little hassle when one shows an insurance card that specifies a Tesla as an insured vehicle. I have no idea what happens when a non-Tesla-owner rents one.

As I previously said I really hate driving ICE now so renting Teslas or the odd Leaf or i3 does let me feel pretty good. I also admit that my air travel patterns can not be described as even remotely green. All those Uber-elite status emblems prove a energy-intensive lifestyle. Solar and wind power for homes may help reduce that negative impact, I suppose. Either way I'm trying hard to reduce my air travel. A lifetime of living simultaneously in more than one country suggests I'll not eliminate air travel any time soon.
