Why is immersive sound disabled by default?

I used to sell high end audio gear and I thought the immersive audio sounded horrible when I tried it out on the one I rented for a day.

well it seems unlikely they'd put a feature they felt was inferior and then leave it off for that reason. I'm no audiophile so I'm not debating your view on the sound but it can't be why it's disabled by default

Because it works by (effectively) adding noise. Whether one likes it is a matter of preference, but it shouldn't be on by default. IMO.

There are three settings, and if my memory is correct it's on the middle one by default. So it's on, but really light.

I can't say I heard much of a difference between the two on settings.

Immersive sound (aka artificial surround sound) is controversial. It's modifying the music from the way it was originally intended to be presented.

Some people like the effect, while others think it sounds "underwater" or excessively echo-y.

Low (it's not off) by default is a reasonable setting for this.

Turning off immersive sound, turns off the A-pillar speakers, I'm not sure why anyone would prefer to have them off.
