Why is my initial Wh/km reading so high?

I've noticed that on almost every trip, irrespective of how gently I drive, the ambient temperature, battery state (warm or cold) or HVAC status, my initial power consumption is always high, usually somewhere between 300 and 500Wh/km. It immediately starts to come down but what is responsible for this initial high energy use? My long-term average is 183Wh/km so overall the car is pretty efficient but I assume that it would be even lower of the car weren't using so much initial energy

Perhaps merely because of the start up of the systems? That would be my guess. It is quite common, so no worry

I'm not worried, I'm just interested in what uses so much energy. It even happens if I put the car into P and straight back into drive

Agreed, I think its because it's reporting energy use over distance. It counts all the energy your car was using while not actually driving as well and creates a big spike. So basically, your car might not have been driving but all counts toward the current "mile" it's measuring. Kind of like if you left your ICE car running in park and eventually ran out of gas. You'd be getting 0 miles per gallon.

That makes sense, it's basically reporting the phantom drain then
