If this range increase for LR RWD turns out not to be BS, I’ll likely pick a set of the foam-equipped 235/45s to replace my mxm4s in a few months. Should basically balance.

I guess we will see. By BS you mean, not an actual range increase? I kind of feel like most people agree it is not an actual range increase (if it were, all Model 3 variants would have somewhat better efficiency). Just aligning with the EPA numbers. But who knows, I guess.

Those PS4S tires really grip, I love them, but the hit on efficiency will be considerably larger than the “increased” rated miles.

If I were you, I would budget for a 15% hit, to be perhaps a little conservative.

Yeah 15% might be more than I’m willing to accept. We shall see. Someone will eventually do some testing with acceptable methodology.

So I got the 255/40/19's in the Continental extreme contact dws06, not much drive time yet just a few miles but initial impressions are good, handles good, plenty of grip, a little more noise than the stock Conti's with foam but I have had the aero's with the mxm4 on for 10 days waiting on 19" sports to be powder coated and when you get used to those tires even going back to the stock 19" would be louder but for sure the new 255 without foam are the loudest of the 3 so yes foam works!
Really like the looks much better and just enough sidewall bulge to possibly save a curb rash maybe only time will tell.

As a bonus with these 27" tall tires and all this extra ground clearance I can now enter the trials event coming up near me, haha, this car is now BEGGING for MPP coilovers!

Update on the Conti 255/40/19's, took out the car on empty roads tonight and it is official, I have neutered my 3, dragy shows 2 tenths off 0-60 and although the tires are new with only 20 miles stopping is about the same at 118 ft., i'm sure after a 1,000 miles stopping will improve but it has lost a little punch from the heavier larger tires.

I thought I was only adding about 2 lbs. per corner but wheels were powder coated and because its a total of 4 coats and it looks like they laid it on thick I got an increase in weight of up to 2 lbs! on just wheels, I weighed them at anywhere from 26.2 to 27 lbs. per wheel sans weights! total package was 53 to 54 plus lbs.per wheel, I was shocked! well I like the looks anyway and I guess if I really wanted to go fast I should have got the P3D!

I like the look, but that's a bummer about the weight showing you down.

I would wait for the tires to break in a few hundred miles and recheck your numbers.

New tires tend to be less grippy due to residual molding compound and such.

Plus it is possible that your car noticed that the tires are behaving differently and went into some sort of "recalibrating" mode.

The 5% power increase in the 3/15 update should make up for it :D

Your 255 tires are also probably about 2% smaller in diameter. It's quite possible that the power control from the 3 is limiting max torque by limiting what it thinks the wheel speed is. It'd be interesting to get tires that are slightly larger to see if they help the externally measured 0-60 times.

Also, when Tesla tested their car on the track a bit ago during the announcement of Track Mode, they tested with 245 width tires, which would be a slight increase. So, maybe there was another reason for that, to extract a little more power from the car. What do you think?

EDIT: Actually, you got really large tires, like 2.5% too large in diameter. (I'm a little surprised they fit.) So, that would reduce the applied torque to the ground in the beginning as it increases the gear ratio. The added weight doesn't seem likely to have much effect. But, maybe next time go smaller diameter to help the acceleration.

When I picked that size it was because I did not want to go smaller, I was originally going to go with the 245 but wanted as much curb rash protection as I could get after the wheels were powder coated, 245 is probably the sweet spot.

I have the P3D, and the stock tire size according to Tire Rack has 786 revs/mile. Each tire seems to have small variations within the same rated size between brands/tires. Here's the data I collected for the Bridgestone RE-71R and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

wheel diameter, profile, width in mm, rim width min, rim width max, revs/mile, revs vs stock, tire name
19 40 235 8 9.5 788 100.25% RE-71R
19 40 245 8 9.5 779 99.11% RE-71R

For the 18", 245mm wide is actually closer to the stock size. But, it depends on the tire.

Here it is everybody, I got the 265/40/18 Mich Pilot 4s on stock aero wheels installed on the rears! They ordered the wrong tires for the fronts (235/45/18 with the TO foam is what i ordered) so they only installed the rears today. I think it looks great! haven had a chance to really drive it yet to feel any grip difference, but very happy with the look and fit. You can tell how much wider the 265 if you look at the picture of the tires next to each other on the floor.
