Well... that didn't take long. 4 or 5 weeks? Got on the highway this morning and.... THWAP.
At least it's right of center, not near the edge, and not in front of the sensors. This'll be easy I thought.
What I didn't expect was glass shops not wanting to touch a Tesla for a basic chip repair. At least not around where I am at work or home. It took me 5 calls to find a place that said if it's within size limits we'll fix, without any drama.
Had 2 places near my work offer to do it, but cash only no receipt and no warranty only. Me = no thanks. 2 other places were straight up no Tesla's, at all, for anything. Including one excellent auto glass chain location that I've used multiple times previously. 5th place is another glass repair chain near my house and were willing to book it for tomorrow based on what I told them.
He explained a little, told me that here (Ontario, Canada) the only place to get the glass is through Tesla and it's a nightmare. Some shops won't touch them even for a repair on the remote possibility that it cracks during repair. They don't want the liability. He said they'll look at it first and if they think that's a possibility they'll discuss with me first. I really appreciated the talk, the information, and the offer to help.
I mean I get it, but the glass itself is just a standard windshield in terms of chips and repair and this isn't in front of the sensors or anything sensitive.
End rant LOL. Issue isn't with Tesla (I don't think?) just the first real ownership hurdle.
I was super close to trying one of the DIY kits but will happily take a professional job if I can get it.
