WTF Alignment Estimate from Tesla

$516 from Tesla's Costa Mesa service center. That's frickin nuts! I understand that they align a little differently than your average car, but there's no way it's worth $516.....

They charge $156 here for alignment.

I remember reading that Tesla is overcharging tire rotations as well because they don't want you to go to service centers

That's what I paid at my service center at the beginning of the year. Yea yea I know it could be done cheaper elsewhere. But $500+ is insane.

Funny enough the wheels were aligned, but the steering wheel was off center, which they fixed.

They never did get my steering wheel aligned when that was my problem, several others have reported that Tesla couldn't get the steering wheel aligned..

Is only Tesla capable of realigning the wheel? My wheel is about 5 degree off center to the right. Wondering if I should even bother telling my wheel alignment shop to try.

I'm pretty sure they don't want you to use service centers for things that can be done elsewhere like changing tires, rotating your wheels, etc since this clogs up the service center. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to charge over $100 for a simple tire rotation.

Speaking of alignments (in OC), do people have places they recommend for alignments? In my other cars I've just done the Firestone lifetime alignment during the New Year's sale, but I wasn't sure about taking my Model S there (coil suspension, not the smart air suspension).

Its more fair to say that EV drivetrains don't need maintenance. You still have to get tires and windshield wipers and brake fluid service done regularly.

I recently got an error about the 12v battery needing to be replaced so I made an appointment with the Santa Ana service center. They are replacing the battery under warranty and quoted me $156 to do an alignment.

Tesla charged me ~$200, iirc. And they had a new Hunter alignment rack.

Check with a local independent euro car shop, they'll have a good recommendation.
