2019 Model 3P insurance rocketed this year?

In 2023, quotes have gone up 20% across the board for all cars I think: Has car insurance gone up 2023? For my own quote, that means there's still another 50% to account for. Maybe Tesla 3Ps get in more wrecks due to the awesome acceleration and insurance companies are only just catching onto that.

2019 Model 3P insurance rocketed this year?

In England. Last year's was about £350, this year's over £600. No incident or anything added to the policy since. Used comparethemarket.com etc. and that was the best I found. Anyone else had a similar experience or just me?

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

Ah I wasn't referring to the first nudge of a journey, but rather every single indicator nudge. I think you thought I was originally referring to the former. Bear in my response was to your comment "Couldn't reproduce your error. Even from cold, the turn signal works for me."

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

@metroplex Which Model 3 year do you have? Try the quickest nudge of your hand you can and as short a distance as you can (whilst making sure the lever is nudged into its new position). Pretend you're trying to jerk the motion.

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

I can confirm I also have this flaw in my 2019 Model 3. It's actually probably created plenty of frustration without me even noticing what was wrong particularly. Not only is being too quick with the indicator stalk not recognized, but trying to CANCEL the current turning indication will also...

Air intake filter - yes or no?

Because of the high hole/gap to material ratio of the aforementioned wire mesh, the effect on the air flow (let alone the motor) is negligible, so you shouldn't have to worry about that at all. Even if by some chance you do wish to install a heavy duty HEPA filter in the air intake (frunk...

Air intake filter - yes or no?

FWIW, I went for this one. They're probably all the same, and this one's a few more quid than some of them, but assuming we can trust Aliexpress's system, it has a high number of ratings and high score (4.8). I wonder if there's something like reviewmeta or fakespot, but for Aliexpress instead...

Air intake filter - yes or no?

The hole to plastic ratio is poor with your product (guessing 1:6). You want some kind of aluminum or stainless steel mesh so that more air is let through than blocked. Not sure about the best size of the holes, but maybe anti-bug-size is the best way to go (yours on the left, bugscreen mesh on...

Air intake filter - yes or no?

There's quite a few candidates available from here: https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-water-strip-model-3.html Not really sure what sort of things I should be looking for to get the best quality. What would you recommend is the best one for my 2019 Model 3?

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

How easy btw would it be to get a photo of the motor cog itself? How long would I be tearing up the car to fit a camera in there considering I have little experience with doing this sort of thing? If I could somehow record the faster cog turning (which in turn drives a slower rotating cog...

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

I'll be interested to reproduce both your problems with the turn signal. I've been frustrated on occasion with the turn signal, and it wouldn't surprise me if this bug is what's causing the subconscious irritation.

Air intake filter - yes or no?

Thanks. If I buy the Farmogo, is the deflector definitely a necessary purchase too, or do you think the light-weight filter will dry out quickly after aircon usage, even if it does get a bit damp due to the rain sometimes?
  13. D

Air intake filter - yes or no?

Has anyone had their aircon / ventilation system fail as a result of installing one of these intake filters? I'm thinking of installing the more 'lite' Farmogo filter which claims around 90% air flow.

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

Right, I think the throttle has a near direct connection to the motor which bypasses the main infotainment computer, otherwise the car would be inoperable if the screen crashed during driving! And then you get the nitrous hit :D

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

Right, it does indeed appear I have the older CPU - the Intel Atom. Looks like the newer Ryzen is snappier. Interesting. I'd love to see a comparison for both these CPUs against each other.

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

Late 2019 Model P3. I know that it has the "newer" autopilot hardware. Is there any way to easily find out the CPU like what you ask for?

Testing for Input lag (both touchscreen and pedal) in a Tesla Model 3 Performance

This post below is a heavily condensed version of the article here, which features more graphics, information and background. I wanted to test for input lag in its various forms on my Model 3 performance and scrutinized not just the hardware angle (pedal lag & gear stick), but also Tesla's...

Wiki Your first UK Tesla MOT? Checklist before the visit.

Had my MOT at the local garage, and went great! Just showed them a few of the basic controls and to use the 4 lift pads/points, and also gave them a printout of the official Tesla MOT docs, and away they went. Received car back three hours later, with a newly minted MOT certificate pass for a...

Wiki Your first UK Tesla MOT? Checklist before the visit.

One interesting thing I noticed in Tesla's Guidance document is this: However, aren't the side rails used when they're resting on a long flat raising platform? I saw the image below off various Amazon lift pad products. The sky blue / cyan area seems to be indicated as "stabilization points"...

Wiki Your first UK Tesla MOT? Checklist before the visit.

Oh Daytime Running Lights is an enforced thing you must have in a car these days? Does Tesla not allow you to have your headlights shining during the day? Surely it'd be an easy thing to add. I mean, you could just turn them on manually, though maybe it has to be automatic to pass the DRL test?

Wiki Your first UK Tesla MOT? Checklist before the visit.

Just updated the checklist. The biggest change was the brake-related tests, which now adhere / point to Tesla's official guidance document. Also clarified tow / transport mode, and added the point about raising the suspension to its highest for the Model S/X with air suspension. Also moved the...

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

Okay received the £13 fluorescent yellow Krink paint pen, and here are the results! First off, with a flashlight so we can see what we'll be looking at: Next off, without the torch, so a real scenario at night to see how visible it is. I recommend copying and pasting the picture to a...

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

With it open, I tried shining a bright torch through the charge point at night, and nothing. It was completely opaque. Good thinking though.
  25. D

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

Exactly, so it won't be a solution for everyone. But hopefully it'll be remotely visible where I park, and more so than plain white paper/card.
  26. D

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

Phosphorescence only works if the material has been exposed to light for a while. Since the port door is closed 99.999% of the time, that's going to be a problem. Fluorescence on the other hand works by trying to extract as much light as it can from longer wavelengths (such as blue) and focusing...

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

I've put my money where my mouth is and bought three fluorescent products. I'll let you know if any of them work, and if so, which works best.
  28. D

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

Resurrecting this thread. I had the same problem the other day. I wish a third party seller could make something suitable, especially if it hooks up with the LED light already there. Putting aside "glow in the dark" paint, I wonder if fluorescent paint would work better, since very few places...

Trying to identify this annoying sound when I'm relaxing in the Model 3

Any idea why they need to do that every 20 seconds, or how it can be quietened?
  30. D

Trying to identify this annoying sound when I'm relaxing in the Model 3

Figured it out. It's the brakes. If you put your foot (or a single toe without your shoe) very softly on the brake pedal, you can even feel it slightly as the sound occurs. Unfortunately, I don't know a real way to avoid it.

Minimizing blind spots - Tesla Model 3 wing mirror showdown: US OEM vs Europe OEM vs Suma vs Hansshow

Here's the original article with full methodology and photos: https://www.skytopia.com/project/tesla/mirrors For the lazy however, here's a quick summary: I've always wanted wing mirrors which can minimize if not totally eliminate the blind spot, so I wanted to try them all out to see which...

To those considering aftermarket versus OEM cabin filter (and installation tips)

Back in stock finally, so I bought myself a pair of Breathe East cabin filters. They have been a preferred option over the OEM Tesla filter and also slightly beat out the XTechnor HEPA ones too according to this source, but the proof is in the pudding, so I thought I'd add my two cents: First...

Group Buy: Suma Convex Side Mirrors WITHOUT Blue Tint

Have you tried moving the mirror up and down too? Doing so allows more left/right clearance due to the internal surfaces. On my 2019 Model 3, I have no problem adjusting the wing mirrors to JUST about show the side of the car. Moving your seat back (and up?) can help too. Finally, for maximum...

Best place to Autocross in the UK?

Sure I posted it earlier. See the video in post #6 (mine) just below where I said "I'm thinking of this:", for about the first minute's worth. Do you have a link to anywhere in the UK doing this? I had a look for "autosolo" and "auto solo" and found nothing at the following URL: Find Clubs -...

Best place to Autocross in the UK?

If there are no other cars or obstacles on the road (car park) though, the only other chance of an accident is if the car overturns, which is highly unlikely in a Tesla due to its low centre of gravity.
  36. D

Best place to Autocross in the UK?

So what is it called in the UK? Or is it something which is rarely or never really done over here? A track isn't timed. I like the timing element as it allows me to beat my own time which for me, is a BIG PART of doing this. Also a track is also longer, and you go faster which can be more...

Best place to Autocross in the UK?

You're probably right, had a quick look, and UK autocross seems a lot more muddy (and may damage the car?), though don't they have proper roads they do it on too? I'm thinking of this: Btw, I checked autotest and autotesting, and only found two - both in Northern Ireland, hundreds of miles...

Best place to Autocross in the UK?

That's a shame. Are the US as harsh as that? It seems pretty safe and low speed. It's not like a track day or anything where you are going at more scary speeds and where you only need a helmet AFAIK. Do they supply the helmet or at least the overalls as part of the day?
  39. D

Best place to Autocross in the UK?

I saw a video of this again recently, and it wet my appetite, especially as you get timed and try to finish as far up the leaderboard as you can. Where's the best place in the UK to Autocross? Hopefully I can take a friend and I think I just need a helmet? Do they supply those?

Trying to identify this annoying sound when I'm relaxing in the Model 3

It's pretty quiet so maybe you haven't noticed. Can you try again to listen out for it when you get into your car? It happens every twenty seconds. If you listen out for it as soon as you get into your car without going into Drive gear, then it begins almost immediately. Not on a hill. And if I...

Trying to identify this annoying sound when I'm relaxing in the Model 3

Okay, I've found the cause. If you gently rest your foot on the brake pedal, you can feel it when the sounds goes off. It seems like some sort of brake actuator check, but why is it happening every 20 seconds, and could there be a way to turn it off? This ruins camp mode for us light sleepers...

Tesla Plaid toying with other high performance cars on the dragstrip whilst trying not to get kicked off

Here's the main video: I think there ***may*** come a time when watching the Plaid win all these races becomes monotonous and predictable, but today is not that day. The whole video is worth a watch, but for the impatient below, I linked just the races. For those not in the know, the ET...

Trying to identify this annoying sound when I'm relaxing in the Model 3

I have a 2019 Model 3P. When the car is stationary and I'm sitting inside in Park mode, there's a "click.....clack" sound which is repeatedly heard every approx. 20 seconds coming from in front of the steering wheel area, probably underneath the dash. It's pretty quiet, but like a dripping tap...

    Wheel lug hole sizes

You're probably thinking of the hex size attachment on the lug nuts themselves. I'm talking about the hole size within the wheels.

    Wheel lug hole sizes

I'd be grateful if someone could measure roughly the lug hole diameter sizes (shown as either of the green lines here) for the old or new Model 3 (or S/X/Y) performance stock wheels. Should take all of 30 seconds. Wondering if some cool wheel locks I found fit some of these Teslas. If the lug...

    Cabin Filter replacement

Do you have a link to that review? I'm curious how it compares to the previous gold standard that's commonly spoken about here - the Breathe Easy Cabin Filter (BE-111).
