Model S gets lighted vanity mirrors

In principle I guess this would be possible, but it sounds a lot more involved and difficult than just organizing another group purchase. I'd do one, but I'm already up to my eyeballs in other projects and responsibilities. Good luck!

Nav system is not that good why?

It's not that I rely on the prompts for my routine driving -- but if they are part of the system, they should at least work properly, and one requirement of that is that they be timely. And in a compex traffic pattern that a driver is not familiar with, audio announcements can be helpful.

    Missing functions after MCU2 upgrade

I got the infotainment upgrade with my MCU2 installation in June 2020, followed by an AM/FM installation in Mar 2021. The list of stations that I can scroll through using the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel seems to have gotten randomized, making it frustrating to find stations...

Nav system is not that good why?

There's room for criticism of the navigation system on my 2017 Model S. It makes me miss TomTom Navigator on my old mobile phone, which always gave me plenty of advance audio warning of required manuevers ahead. In my S, the annoucement to do something often arrives either as I'm already doing...

Help me debunk/support rumor that only 3 out of 4 Model Y tires contact road during turns

Thanks for the comments. I think we can safely lay this to rest. After showing my sister the materials kindly shared by Watts_Up, and pushing her a bit, I understand things differently. She lives in Sausalito, which has lots of very steep and winding roads, and sharp turns, so the road...

Help me debunk/support rumor that only 3 out of 4 Model Y tires contact road during turns

I am the original owner and grateful driver of a 2017 Model S. My sister recently acquired a model Y, which she is also very happy with. However, a close friend of hers who is an ICE engineer/designer (hence, not a disinterested party) told her of a "Model Y design defect" such that in some...

Disappearance of FM radio station logos on dash display

I note that several other members have mentioned problems with the non- or incorrect display of radio station logos. I was pleasantly surprised several weeks ago when one of the logos for a favorite FM station suddenly reappeared on my Model S dash display. However, it was alone, no other...

Model S gets lighted vanity mirrors

Of course. Hope my notes are correct, but I believe the parts you need are from JST Connectors (who was the OEM for the parts used by Tesla): 1) Socket housing: part no. PNIRP-02V-S (the white plastic connector that mates with the one on the visor). 2) Contact: part no. SPND-001T-C0.5 (the...

New Model S Places Itself into "Jack Mode" -- Anyone Else Seen This?

So sorry to read about your event. I am distressed that this problem is still occurring. Happily for me, it has not recurred with my Model S. Here are the notes from my maintenance log some weeks after the event: I called Tesla Roadside Assistance who used telemetry data to confirm...

Disappearance of FM radio station logos on dash display

I purchased the MCU2/HW3 upgrade for my 2017-vintage Model S over a year ago, and when the FM radio module became available, had that installed as well. I was happy to get back FM radio reception, but noticed that the colorful and informative station logos that appeared on the dash display with...

Rear Hatch Latching Problem (Model S)

I'm sad to be posting again to this thread, which I started in May 2018 with a description of a problem with my Model S rear hatch not latching properly, leaving the car unlockable, and thus unusable if you think it important to lock your vehicle when it is unattended, which is a must in my...

Search engine output is now a confusing mess

My thanks go to Danny of the from support team, who pointed out that the much more simply formatted output of "Elastic Search" (as opposed to the word-salad mess from the Threadloom search engine) can be displayed by preference by opening up the Settings panel for your account (accessible using...

Search engine output is now a confusing mess

I've worked heavily with the Web since its inception, and have a lot of respect for the amount of talent and effort that goes into setting up and maintaining a good site. It is particularly painful for me to criticize the TMC site, as it has proven to be hugely helpful to me in the past, during...

    Ants?!?!?!

Is it possible that the ants are trying to get into the window washer reservoir (which is near the area where they are entering your vehicle)? See this discussion: https://www.mr2oc.com/threads/ants-in-windshield-washer-tank.222038/

    I retrofit MCU2, IC2, Tuner2, and FSD Computer into my HW2.0 Car

Wow. As a fellow DIY-er who knows his limits, I would never have taken this on, but I'm full of admiration for your mix of gutsiness and grit. And for your sharing such a thorough and well-illustrated document of the entire process. Having recently had MCU2/AP3 upgrades to my Mar 2017 model...

Brain Transplant Gives my Model S Higher Aspirations

I have just completed my first several days of driving my 2017 vintage Model S following the recent installation of its new HW3 AP computer (free, as I had included the FSD option in my original purchase), and the updating of the MCU to version 2 (the "infotainment upgrade," most decidedly not...

Problem with Wi-Fi connection between Model S and Ubiquiti AP AC Pro Access Point

I'm an empiricist: if ten devices work fine in a given setting, and one does not, it's the one that is the outlier, not the ten. Tesla should make its Wi-Fi support more robust. :)

Problem with Wi-Fi connection between Model S and Ubiquiti AP AC Pro Access Point

I own a Mar 2017 Model S 90D. Several months after purchase, I updated my home wireless setup with two Ubiquiti AP AC Pro access points (APs), one on my townhouse, and another in the garage, primarily to support the Model S. The Model S and the garage AP communicated brilliantly for at least...

Is power in the microphone area for a dashcam "always on" when Sentry is off?

In my Mar 2017 Model S, Calibred Customs installed my Blackvue dashcams to the wiring in the microphone cavity, and it is always on. For "switched" (accessory rail) power, I used wiring that runs to the electrochromic rear-view mirror to power the Model S gets lighted vanity...

Do you have anything else on the circuit (e.g. dashcams)? Have you considered using power from the "accessory rail" instead? I outlined that approach in principle in my lengthy earlier posting, but have not yet had time to try it out. That would in any case be the right way to do this. You...

Dancing Cars on my display. Is this normal?

There was no "final solution" to the wiring, as I was busy, and I was so pleased to have the visor extensibility feature (which was my main motivation for purchasing the visors) that I have not yet completed the electrical wiring. I do hope to complete this task, and this is the path I've...

Model S Enhanced Anti-theft module. Wish I had not bought.

I have the anti-theft option (and yes, it does provide tilt-sensing), and also a 4-channel dashcam setup (2 BlackVue 750s, 4 cameras in all, as installed by Calibred Customs) and have had no issues thus far. I had more of a problem with the tiny window stickers that came with the anti-theft...

Interactions Between The Model S Enhanced Anti-theft Option And Sentry Mode And Other Systems

I installed the "Model S Enhanced Anti-theft Option" several months ago. Feature Request Voting System

The more I think about this problem, the more complicated it appears. Interesting Research on Subtle Vulnerabilities of Autopilot Lane Detection

A link to this report was reissued today in email to IEEE members, dated 10 April -- I'm thinking this is likely a genuine study. Interesting Research on Subtle Vulnerabilities of Autopilot Lane Detection

A recent article in IEEE Spectrum discusses research into vulnerabilities of Autopilot lane detection. Given that the article is dated 1 April 2019, it may be a rather sophisticated joke, but it reads as if in dead earnest (pardon the pun). Perhaps some of our house exports on neural network...
