Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

From what I can see, the used cars they sell are neither "affordable, more available or accessible much faster." The primary goal of this policy seems to be to pass the cost of vehicles damaged/trashed by the loaner program to people buying used cars. They are selling 3-4 year old cars for...

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

They should hire whoever manages the CPO Program, for Mercedes, Audi, or Porsche because all 3 of them run an outstanding CPO program that makes them a bunch of money while delivering cars in immaculate condition that make their customers happy.
  3. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

I hope CarMax starts offering used Tesla vehicles with a warranty. This would be a great thing for Tesla customers as they need a viable option to purchase a car if Tesla can't be bothered to refurbish cars they sell.
  4. P

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

Totally agree. For all the flack dealers get for very legitimate reasons, selling CPO cars is something that they do extremely well by delivering like new cars that are a few years old resulting in a great customer experience without some of the unpleasantness associated with buying a used car.

    CPOs before the BIG change

If your delivery happened tomorrow it would be: "Oh so you noticed all the marks on the hood now did you? That will be $$$$. Those marks on the hood are not free. How do you want to pay for it if you prefer to not have the marks on the hood?" :p
  6. P

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

Except do you see any aspect of this that they are doing similar to how high end car dealers do things? :p I bet someone is going to hurriedly take a bunch of random cellphone photos and email it as that's what they did to a previous CPO car we were interested in. We once bought a CPO...

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

I just can't understand how they can charge $98,200 for a 4 year old car and not refurbish it.
  8. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I just think this is a poorly thought of decision that they will have to revisit sooner or later. Tesla is the only company I own stock in and I don;t think they have any major issues. They will eventually get the Model 3 ramp up on track and obliterate their competition. In the meantime they...

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

Or at least complimentary refurbishing for a used Tesla :p
  10. P

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

I honestly don't see how this is going to work for Tesla or their customers either other than have a bunch of customers who are going to have their Tesla purchase experience ruined and Tesla employees who can barely keep up with the workload as it is having to now track down cars and email...
  11. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

I think this is going to be really tough for a bunch of cars that are loaners as the car might be driven by a Tesla customer making it very difficult to examine the car. I think people were okay with not being able to see the car knowing Tesla would refurbish it appropriately but with that not...

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

For the photos to be of any use, they really need to be of very high resolution though. I hope they realize what a huge can of worms they are opening with this new policy as customers start balking at the state of cars that are not refurbished. In the long term, they need to figure out a...
  13. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Yeah it is total bait and switch if you sell a used car showing stock photos and then try to bill the customer for refurbishing the car to meet the industry standard for a what premium used car should be like. Collecting a deposit without disclosing the actual condition of the car is just as...
  14. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I just think it is ridiculous that a Tesla customer would have to depend on a consumer protection law to save them due to a bad policy change from Tesla. This is a law that a consumer dealing with a car dealer would never even have to invoke in such a situation because when you buy a CPO car...
  15. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I consider this new Tesla policy to be mistreating (or at the least not treating them well:rolleyes:) customers for the following reasons. They list cars that may have damage caused as service loaners. They do not publish photos of the cars being sold so you have no idea about the scope or...
  16. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Sadly the joke is on whoever now buys these cars from Tesla, knowing the cars can be abused as service loaners, but having no clue about the state of abuse until you pay for the car and show up to pick up the car. Add insult to injury Tesla will then give you a bill to fix all the abuse and...
  17. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

This is the part that really disgusts me. They are basically having their CPO inventory driven as loaner rentals and trying to get people who buy these cars to pay for all the damage when they don't disclose the damage caused to these cars in advance. And the cars are exorbitantly priced to...
  18. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

What they are doing is honestly far worse. Even the slimiest used car salesman will have the decency to show photos of the car they are selling and, especially for high end cars, refurbish the cars to look almost like new. Most importantly they will not use their inventory as loaner rentals...
  19. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Yes, it's completely appalling. We'd love to replace our last ICE with a CPO but absolutely refuse to be treated this way when buying a used car costing this much. This new policy seems contemptuous of customers who buy these cars without even seeing photos of the car, trusting Tesla to...
  20. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I think this is because most people who buy $70K used cars from the manufacturer are used to cars in immaculate condition with very few if any blemishes. And this expectation I think is as it should be given the price of these cars... This new policy would technically exempt the condition of...
  21. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

Oh seriously, who is forcing anyone to do anything? Anyone can wake up and stay in bed all day saying no one is forcing them to do anything  That's too easy of an excuse to justify anything. The point is to treat people with respect and fairly. Selling used cars that you can't see in...

    CPOs before the BIG change

This car supposedly needed extra time to "refurbish" before delivery... Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM. The best advice is to not pay a cent until you see the car and it is acceptable to you. The moment you pay, you are done. They would not even accept the OP's calls after...
  23. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

And I wish Tesla would fine the living daylights out of people who return loaners all trashed because at the end of the day someone else will have to pay it. There is not a scrap of anything when we return a loaner and my children know to be extra careful when it is not daddy's own car as well.

Tesla Model S CPO Website - Now Live

Except just about everyone who sells CPO Cars are able to meet the expecttaion of delivering a clean car in reasonable condition. I don;t think this is about expectations being too high but standards being too low...

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Seems like the result of the Escalate option is now all CPO cars will be delivered this way :p I'm only half kidding!
  26. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

It matters less what they are called more so that customers are treated in a reasonable and predictable way. We love our service center as well but I feel they should come up with a better policy.
  27. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

While I empathize with you, I feel like that statement is unfair to the literally thousands of Tesla employees who do nothing but their best to take care of customers every way they can. We LOVE our service center and the employees who work there so I don't think poor customer service is an...
  28. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

I would not go that far. In my mind Tesla still makes the finest car available to buy. There is no other car I would rather buy but I feel like this is a horrible policy that is awful for Tesla customers and diminishes the brand to offer cars for sale with a bill for fixing what should have...
  29. P

Does Tesla really want to have the worst CPO Program in the world?

We are considering looking into a CPO purchase so we can dispose of our remaining ICE but we are appalled to see the new CPO Program where the cars are essentially sold "as is" with a bill for any damage caused by the previous owner. Based on some other threads, the CPO Program already was in...

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

They've literally made their CPO Program the absolute worst in the automotive industry. It's like they've given up even the pretense of trying to make the cars look presentable before they are ofered for sale. The disclaimer basically says the car is mechanically sound but that is it so they...
  31. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Did you see the latest change to their CPO Program? They've made it considerably worse. So the plan now is they will offer CPO cars not refurbished like anyone would expect but with a bill for fixing everything broken or damaged with the car.
  32. P

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

The reason they've had to incur extra refurbishing costs is because they use the CPO fleet as service loaners that then have the crap beaten out of them and now it seems they want CPO customers to pay for that damage o_O
  33. P

    "non refurbished" CPOs?

Wow. Just Wow. If you thought CPO cars were delivered in a crappy condition then, you have not seen anything yet, I suppose  Looks like they managed to make their CPO Program the worst CPO Program in the entire automotive industry. Even a CPO Kia is refurbished before being offered for sale.
  34. P

    Tesla CPO Pricing

I honestly don't think it is doing wonders to anyone. People who buy used cars are not looking to pay almost as much as a new car. We also all know that used car prices did not go up by $15K overnight and Tesla has not adjusted lease residuals up by $15K so even they don't believe that their...

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Did you check the VIN/Carfax to see when this vehicle was traded in?
  36. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

The CPO process IMHO is simply in need of transparency. If they had to show photos of the actual car up for sale, they will not deliver filthy cars like this because at the least it will force them to bring the car up to a certain standard before selling and delivering it. All the more why no...
  37. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

I bet it lived a hard live as a service loaner based on how filthy the car is.
  38. P

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

Yikes. I am so sorry and you should escalate until they make it right. You've unfortunately summed up everything I've felt is wrong with the Tesla CPO program. Mainly how they sell cars without showing you what it is that you are buying and thereby what you get being a crap shoot. It also...
  39. P

    High CPO prices?

If you think that is funny, how about this S60 for $75,600  It's for the customer who has enough money to buy a 2018 75D but absolutely refuse a a car with a larger battery, that is faster, has AWD, AP2.5, and better build quality :p For such customers, Tesla has the CPO program :D

ESA - now eligible even with dealer in chain of ownership?

Good thinking to only own a Tesla under warranty. I would not dream of owning my car beyond the extended warranty period.

2013 Model-S P85 for sale in Washington, DC area

I don't think $41K is an outlandish price for a 2013 P85 out of warranty. In fact, before CPO prices were increased to almost match the cost of new cars, Tesla sold CPO P85s in the mid to late 40s. I can't vouch for the listing but the price seems where it should be.

Chevrolet To Launch Performance Electric CUV

Totally off topic but your Dyson knowledge is a bit dated. Look up the V10. It fits anywhere a broom would :p Too bad GM insists on making electric cars like the Bolt look like econo-buckets. When Model 3 ramp up is complete with the short range RWD version, the Bolt is done.
  44. P

    Tesla CPO Pricing

Let's not get too excited for now because we are going on conjecture based on a rumor at this point. If they indeed go ahead and start selling CPO cars without refurbishing then would be the time to throw a collective fit. IMHO the whole point in buying a CPO car is that there is a...

    Tesla CPO Pricing

Yeah good luck with that is all I have to say. Wait until people who are used to buying high end CPO cars in pristine condition from dealers are shown vehicles with curbed/damaged wheels and other blemishes that would never be sold as a CPO car by another comparable high-end manufacturer...
  47. P

    Tesla CPO Pricing

I guess we both mean the same thing then. I've always thought Tesla should CPO only cars in pristine condition as when you pay $50-60K+ to buy a used car, that's what most people expect. Tesla will still have to refurbish cars somewhat though such as fixing curb rash, minor paint blemishes...
  48. P

    Tesla CPO Pricing

Wait what? The whole point of buying a CPO car from the manufacturer is that you get a well maintained almost pristine car at a slightly higher cost with the peace of mind that the car has been carefully inspected and the manufacturer will stand behind it. We once bought a CPO Mercedes from NY...

    Insurance Total Loss P85D

You should be able to get that up to $60 to late 60s plus taxes. Just hire a professional appraiser and I bet that's what they will come back to you with.
