    No connectivity

Yup! Since the last software update : 2023.6.8, lte keeps dropping in and out. Navigation can’t find addresses, none of the other media related functions work (no connectivity). Can’t even do a bug report. Even wifi at the same position where I download updates keeps saying incorrect password...

    MCU Upgrade - Canada

If you have used the Ryzen MCU in the Y, you may be slightly disappointed with the MCU2. Make no mistake it is a big upgrade from MCU1 for the model x, but I just find that as they keep updating the software, they don't seem to be making good use of their "resource budgets" and the MCU just...

    2018 Model S 75D extended warranty / repair costs

My car ran out of warranty within 2y (80K km). I didn't get the extended warranty. It depends on how much you will drive. The key repairs on this car that are expensive: - MCU replacement (I spent $3500 for MCU2 upgrade...approx same for any MCU repair) - door handle repairs (can be repaired...

Anyone ever changed paddle gear on “Gen3” door handle assy?

I just got the paddle gear in my gen 3 door handle (passenger side) replaced by someone who has experience working with teslas. it was a pain to remove the shaft to slip in the new paddle. I believe he drilled the side of the handle to slowly move out the shaft and install the paddle gear. He...

    Canadian Stores and Service Centers

The problem is we still do not have a service advisor or anyone. Literally no communication or anything from Tesla. When I asked for the VIN, she said (Shabnam Safaei) said a VIN was assigned and we had previously already rejected delivery. I told her we never got any notification until last...

    Canadian Stores and Service Centers

Hey guys, It has been a while since I have gone inside a Tesla dealership (Lawerence avenue) since I got my MS years ago. We got notified that our new MX is arriving soon (Dad's car) and it is unbelievable how terrible the customer service is at the stores. They treat you like garbage and are...

Late 2016 / Early 2017 S Owners: How Are Your Daytime Running Lights Holding Up?

I've been on the lookout for good condition of these G lights for the past few months. How much of an issue are broken tabs? would they be fixable by Tesla? my service centre guy said if I bring in the lights, they can replace them for me.

Rattle noise coming from front Air Suspension (2017-18)

I wanted to drop in an update. After nearly 40K of driving, the rattle is coming back (replacement done at ~80K). They ended up replacing my front struts again after I complained of a random deeper sound issue from the front. Now at 122K and out of warranty, I can hear a metallic rattle at lower...

    Moving to canada

I am from the Toronto area and have a 2017 MS. Personally, if I were in your shoes I would consider multiple options: 1) The price in Canada is definitely higher than the US. The taxes in Canada are 13%. The incentives for a MS are non-existent at this point since it is a "luxury/high priced...

Any Model S or X received the Holiday update yet? What about external speakers on s/X?

I got the update on my S yesterday. I feel indifferent about the supercharger display improvements. The IC display visualization looks more detailed. The resolution of the car model seems better. We can now see the MCU in the model. The font for the speed seems to have been changed slightly...

Anyone have experience with these GTA body shops?

I had a small accident earlier this year and I took my car to Leon's autobody. They did a thorough and good job. The paint matched up pretty well too. Would definitely recommend them.

    Summon drives me crazy

Yea. I remember the tech said they couldn't remotely gain access to the car either. So without copying the correct "keys" the car cannot be accessed / remotely pushed certain firmware/file updates.

MCU2 Upgrade Audio EQ Balancing - Coming From MCU1

I can also verify... shifting the balance all the way to the rear gives almost NO BASS response and very low volume. This was definitely NOT the case when I had my MCU1. Note: I have premium audio in my car.

    Summon drives me crazy

I just took my car in to the Mississauga SC yesterday. They tested it and confirmed remote unlock does not work and summon does not work. Finally at the end of the day they called me and asked me to unlock my car remotely from Hamilton and it worked in Mississauga. Apparently some "root key...

"Refresh" Headlights, separate and repair DRL?

My car has burnt out headlights and tesla said I have to pay $2K to replace a single headlight (Canadian $). I am out of warranty at slightly under 3y since purchase (2017 December and 99K km on the odometer). SO no...they are not replacing them if you are out of warranty...and now the other...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Well.. I don't know what the issue is (security mismatch maybe?). I can say that unlock from the phone makes the lights blink but the car does not unlock. In terms of summon not working, summon gives me this error. The car folds it's mirrors and makes the 3 chime sounds..however, the rear lights...

Wireless Phone Charger for Tesla Model S

I have a pixel 4 XL and I found that after my MCU2 upgrade, the wireless charger does somewhat slowly charge the phone. Prior it was basically useless. I did once leave the phone on there for an hour and it did go from 60% to 100%. However, this was while I was just sitting in the car without...

    Model S MCU1 to MCU2 changes question ?

Honestly, I’ve gotten used to it. I can definitely feel the decrease in bass output from the rear, but given the rest of improvement provided by both the MCU and AP3 computer upgrade, this is totally worth it.

    MCU Upgrade - Canada

If that is your reason for the upgrade, from my personal experience, you will LOVE it. That is the primary improvement that makes a huge quality of life upgrade for this car. Also, I cannot get over the speed improvement to the menus/settings pages. It makes such a difference to immediately...

    MCU Upgrade - Canada

I have an appointment booked at the SC for my summon issue. Currently on 2020.28.6 and it stopped working since the MCU upgrade. I wonder if we can do an update to the Bluetooth antenna or something? I started having some connection issues since 2020.2x.x version over a couple of months ago.

    MCU Upgrade - Canada

Glad you are enjoying it. The sound setting depends on your taste in music. My personal taste is higher bass and I have 9 on the bass scale and a general "v" tick shape (flipped horizontally with low 1 or 2 value boosted on treble. I personally also have to change the balance to the rear (the...

    MCU Upgrade - Canada

I'll post this here as I did in the main upgrade thread in the "S" section of this forum. Got my car back today. Here are my thoughts: I took a video of the MCU before the upgrade. It is a night/day difference in the speed. So much more responsive to touch. The biggest justification for the...

    Model S MCU1 to MCU2 changes question ?

I can confirm that after my MCU 2 upgrade, I do notice a change in sound quality. Yes! The bass somehow seems to be more routed from the front. In the past, if I used the balance and shifted it all the way to the back right, I could localize the sub (somewhat) and hear the strong bass. Now it is...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

It is the Mississauga location. I posted in the latest post that today when I dropped off the car, the same service rep said “Yes! They will replace the IC as well.” So I guess because updates here just started last week, they also must have just realized that IC is part of the upgrade kit.

    Ontario Insurance Discussion

I’m in Mississauga and my insurance significantly increased over the last 3ish years of having my car from $120 month to $190 to $270. No tickets...no accidents. Apparently because of our proximity to Brampton, insurance just kept going up and now the deductible is also $5000. It’s seriously...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

From what I read parts ending with B do not come with the screen replacement. My estimate included cost for new screen so if they do not change it , they have to fix it as I explicitly mentioned I rather get a new screen part than the $300 savings (given I already had a UV fix done for yellowing...

    MCU Upgrade - Canada

I just got my estimate today and the parts are apparently here for the install. This is the line item in my upgrade I think this is the one with the replacement display. However, they still adamantly say that IC2 is already in my car and will not be replaced. lol part number is 1582613-00-A...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I can't wait. I was hoping for a retrofit ever since I missed out on it by a couple of months after I took delivery of my car. App failed to wake up the car. “Vehicle connection error”. Anyone else ?

    MCU Upgrade - Canada

If you look at the thread here: Tesla confirms infotainment system upgradeability from MCU1 to MCU2 for $2500 I think people are specifying that even 2.5 cars require an ICU2 upgrade. Now I am still skeptical with the post by @Ludalicious above. lol
