Unable to set gateway customer password

Is anyone currently able to reset the customer password? Gateway version 22.18.3 As far as I can see, I'm following the instructions, and I've been able to do this in the past. But I just get the unhelpful error message "Unable to set password". One thing of note is that it takes thirty...

Low Solar Production and Peak vs Rated

The output from a panel reduces with the angle between the sun and the perpendicular to the panel (it pretty much follows a trigonometric cosine), so it's affected by latitude, panel orientation, time of day, and time of year. Even if there's a time of day/year when the sun is perpendicular to...

Tesla App: why are settings hidden in new installations?

Sees to me that they pretty much have to, because they have to fit you in to their time of use tariff. I'm rather skeptical of how much TEP is worth. The time of use tariff for off-peak is expensive compared with other offerings. Peak time is cheap, but with a Powerwall, unless you're...

Looking for recommendations for specific TOU Setup

I'm not sure when things went wrong, but changes to the Powerwall firmware seem to have broken Time Based Control, because it's now based on a utility rate plan that one cannot avoid using, Previously, it would neither charge nor discharge during off-peak times. Now if I give it a low price...

    Solar Panel Tilting Consideration?

I don't know that this is at all practical. At your lattitude, even in mid summer and at midday the sun is not overhead. So you have to consider the problem of one panel shading the next one. The situation gets worse the nearer the season is to winter, in either direction.

    Powerwall doesn't like domain names?

Quoting from RFC6066 "If the server understood the ClientHello extension but does not recognize the server name, the server SHOULD take one of two actions: either abort the handshake by sending a fatal-level unrecognized_name(112) alert or continue the handshake." So just closing the...

    Powerwall doesn't like domain names?

Thanks for that. I've confirmed that "powerwall" and "teg" work. Also that "thing" doesn't (incase it was a length issue). That goes some way to explaining how this has come about - Tesla have started checking the name. Doesn't really explain why, nor explain the abrupt termination of the TCP...

    Powerwall doesn't like domain names?

Still works for me, as long as I use an IP address.

    Powerwall doesn't like domain names?

Other than that the server name extension doesn't work now, has there been a problem with it?
  12. S

    Powerwall doesn't like domain names?

It turns out the gateway no longer likes being given a TLS server name extension, which it only gets if a domain name is used rather than an IP address. It should really give a 404 not found error, rather than just chopping the TCP connection. I wonder what's going on here. Did someone really...

    Powerwall doesn't like domain names?

I have a domain name on a local DNS set up to point to my powerwall gateway. Which has worked since I set it up shortly after the system was installed a couple of years ago. I'm now on version 21.20.2 and all of a sudden, it seems to object to being given a domain name, and doesn't respond...

    Powerwall firmware expiry?

I'm using api/login/Basic with {"username":"installer","password":"shush-secret","force_sm_off":false} And I always get {"code":401,"error":"roles [Provider_Engineer] require physical access","message":"Login Error"} until I toggle the switch. After I do that the resulting bearer-token seems...

    Powerwall firmware expiry?

My Powerwall worked perfectly well without the internet for a year and a half. Even now, having made the mistake of letting it upgrade its firmware, I could continue to control it without internet access by building a device to operate the Powerwall rocker-switch automatically (design in...

    Powerwall firmware expiry?

That's not how I did it, I interposed a program that modified the time returned by a real NTP server. It's no longer interposed.

    Powerwall firmware expiry?

While trying to diagnose this, I gave the gateway access to the internet, to see whether data would show up in the App. It didn't. What it did do, though was to grab a firmware update. However, it didn't install it immediately. That only happened some minutes after I'd provided fake network time...

    Powerwall firmware expiry?

Yes, I was already aware of all that stuff, but there was no mention of such a requirement in the advertising of the 10 year warranty, and it's certainly not something I agreed to before the thing was installed. I also doubt that Tesla wants to have a consumer tribunal look at the highly...

    Powerwall firmware expiry?

If Tesla wants to try to invalidate my warranty on that basis, I'll see them before the consumer tribunal in NSW, Australia. They don't get to advertise a ten year warranty, and then attach new conditions to it after the event. That's not how contracts work.
  20. S

    Powerwall firmware expiry?

Some while back, I got frustrated with the way firmware updates kept breaking things, so I blocked the Powerwall gateway's access to the Internet. I wasn't using the Ap to monitor it anyway. And all has been good, until a couple of days ago (I've only just noticed). Access to the gateway...

    TEG with 1.44.x

That would be nice, though the options seem quite limited at the moment, and the world seems to be moving towards ever more persistent control by manufacturers after products are sold :(

    TEG with 1.44.x

Anyone seeing better control of the Powerwall via the TEG as compared with 1.43.x? In particular, do changes to the reserve take effect properly? Sylvia.

Where I live, in Australia, I've seen quite a few such roofs. I think the owners mistakenly thought they'd emigrated to Austria where such a roof might make sense (because of snow).

    Powerwalls Discharging in Backup-only Mode

I don't see any ramp on with mine. In the data, at the point where it decides it's going to use the battery, at 23:21:14, it actually overshoorts, and sends 362W to the grid. It seems odd that ostensibly the same hardware with the same firmware should behave differently. The small solar...

    solar production

To get anywhere the theoretical maximum, the panels have to be perpendicular to the sun. At this time of year in the Bay area, the sun is only getting to a bit more than 33 degrees above the horizon. Unless your roof is very steep, your panels are going to be far from perpendicular. The...

    Powerwalls Discharging in Backup-only Mode

Intriguing. Do you at least see the one minute delay, or is it immediate?
  27. S

    Powerwalls Discharging in Backup-only Mode

Changing the reserve using the TEG interface involves two steps - first set the reserve number, and then tell the gateway that the changes are complete. Since 1.43.3 any change has rarely been honoured after the first complete operation. Instead, it is usually necessary to issue the operation...

Only getting solar when grid is up...this is a new one for me..... ???

It appears to me that that inverter has an LCD, and there should be additional information there relating to what the problem is. But it should work, and it did work for me (albeit with a different PV inverter) over a day and a half outage we had a couple of months back. On the two successive...

    Odd behaviour with web control

I've found that repeating the /api/config/completed call as soon as the first one has responded seems to make things work. Quite what Tesla could have done to cause this behaviour is hard to imagine, unless it was actually deliberate.

    Grid outage. Odd behavior?

My extended outage also took out my Internet access, which was annoying because it is meant to have battery backup. I find it convenient to have a broadband Internet SIM for a prepaid service. Even when I have no credit (which is almost always, given how I use it), I can still use it to access...

    Grid outage. Odd behavior?

I was rather surprised to see that my microwave oven's time of day clock ran fast when we had an extended (more than 24 hour) outage. I had thought the practice of using the main's frequency as a timebase was long abandoned, but apparently not completely.

    Odd behaviour with web control

I've been controlling my powerwall 2 via its web interface for getting on for two years. Come the start of the off-peak tarrif period in the evening, the reserve gets set to the current charge, and grid power is used until the end of that period in the morning, whereapon the reserve is set to...

Battery powering controlled load hot water

This may mean nothing to people in the USA. I've seen my powerwall exporting power to cover the controlled-load hot water current draw. Since the hot water is on a separate meter, this means that the power goes out through the normal meter, counted as a solar export (at night!), and then back...

Does anyone else think Tesla Energy is trying to destroy the sterling reputation earned by TesaMotor

You probably thought that because it's bought and paid for, that means it's yours. Telsa take a different view towards property rights, and consider that since they built into it the ability to tinker with it remotely, that fully entitles them to do so, and you have no grounds to object. Telling...

    Firefox and Gateway Web Page

Spoke too soon. Someone else came on, said it was definitely a bug, and submitted a bug report. The report now shows its status as "RESOLVED FIXED" so presumably we'll see it work again in the next version or so.

    Firefox and Gateway Web Page

I managed to extract the relevant code from the web page (FWIW, attached below, rename to be an html file to run), and posted to the Firefox developer's page on Stack Overflow. I've only received two responses, and one of those has been deleted (I think it was wrong anyway). The other indicates...

    Firefox and Gateway Web Page

I'm finding that Firefox is no longer correctly displaying the gateway page that shows power flows. The numbers are right, but the moving cirlces that show the power direction don't move. It works OK under Chrome. Not sure whether it's a new version of Firefox that's the problem, or new version...

For people in using Energy Australia

I finally extracted the billing data for part of the summer period from Energy Australia. Though they're required to supply it on request, I eventually had to go to the Energy Ombudsman to get it actioned. Anyway, it was as I suspected when I got my most recent bill - they have not been...

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

This really doesn't fit with Tesla's apparent philosophy, which is that they retain full control of the powerwall, and we the 'owners' should feel privileged that we're permitted to use them, and should accept whatever Tesla does with grattitude. Sylvia.

Lost connectivity on wired ethernet to powerwalls?

Sounds like the webserver lockup bug. You'll need to reset the powerwall gateway, either by pressing the reset button through the hole (if you're lucky enough to have it), or by powering everything down (shutdown solar, trip main house circuit breakers) for ten minutes. What version of the...

I've been on version 1.29 for a while now. The previous time I noticed, it was 1.26. I haven't seen the webserver lockup for while either. Has anyone else seen this occur subsequent to 1.26? Sylvia.

    Powerwall Warranty problem

I don't see how this claim could stand up, given the absence of anything about it in the warranty documentation. Further I think the claims puts Tesla in breach of section 29(1)(m) of the Australian Consumer Law, which prohibits making a "false or misleading representation concerning the...

    Powerwall 2: Reboot the gateway?

Yes, some of us are fortunate enough to have a reset button. Sadly, Tesla didn't see the need to provided that on all installations.
  48. S

    Powerwall 2: Reboot the gateway?

As far as I can see, the Neurio is just a monitoring system. Indeed, it's far from clear to me that it provides anything that the standard Powerwall 2 installation doesn't. The gateway contains a processor (probably running Linux), and is certainly more than just relays.

    Enphase vs SolarEdge

One issue is that the environment these things live in (underneath the panels) can be quite hard on electronics. Where I live (Sydney, Australia) my installer was quite opposed to microinverters for that reason. I'm not sure I'd want to try running solar during grid outages without a battery...

    Powerwall 2: Reboot the gateway?

It's probably worth trying. You'll have turn off the Powerwall, and power down the solar and grid, and leave it all off for ten minutes or so. Unfortunately, that means you have to tolerate the 10 minute power outage.
