    Rear camera/MCU1 issue since V11

The rear camera on our early 2017 Model X has started to flicker, like it can't figure out what exposure level it wants to set itself to. MCU reset was no help. I'm concerned it's starting to go bad. What were the model numbers of your old camera and the replacement?

Suspension corrosion on 2017 Model X

Good call. I jacked up the car and took the wheel off so I could get at it, and sure enough it's just dirt! Wow, had me fooled from the photos. Weird that it just accumulated on that part and no others. Whelp, false alarm. Good reminder though to check on these parts from time to time.

Suspension corrosion on 2017 Model X

I'm the Seattle area, so we occasionally see some road salt maybe once or twice a year but not that much. It's not like I'm in Minnesota or Norway or something. And even in those places, I've never seen anyone post anything like this.

Suspension corrosion on 2017 Model X

I was checking on the brake rotors on my 2017 Model X and took a look back behind the rotor and noticed that one of the suspension components, the spindle knuckle I think, is showing a surprising amount of corrosion. It's the same on both driver and passenger side. It looks crusty and shriveled...

FS: Radio Flyer Model S Kids EV (Seattle / Redmond)

For sale one much loved and used Radio Flyer Model S. My kids loved this car, but have since outgrown it. It charges and drives well still. Charging cable included. Some scratches from normal use. Pickup in Redmond, WA. Make me an offer.

    Safety Score

That's nothing. My overall safety score seems to be stuck at 89 because I get dinged for 7% of "hard braking" every time I leave my neighborhood to take the kids to school and later go pick them up. :-/

    Safety Score

Lol. I wish it was that gradual and slowly sloping at the end. Imagine that but curved, steeper, and ending at a T intersection with a busy 4 lane road.

    Safety Score

Yeah, that's fair. And I do extend my braking here quite a bit. Just not enough obviously to appease the algorithm. Perhaps the other takeaway here is Autopilot doesn't take into account the grade at all and is far worse than a human under these conditions. Either way, Tesla should use angle...

    Safety Score

Even if I could keep it to well under the speed limit without getting rear ended by someone else coming down the hill, which is a real concern here, and keep it to say 15mph under constant light braking, when I hit the last part and decelerate from 15mph to 0, even over a loonnnngg protracted...
  11. EarlyAdopter

    Safety Score

I should have been clearer. It's not the driving down the hill part that I get dinged for. It's the last part at the base of the hill that intersects with a major roadway at a traffic light. That last section is short, steep, 25mph, and comes to hard stop. Even if I go max regen and take it...

    Safety Score

I'm getting constantly dinged for "hard braking" when ever I leave my neighborhood, which is down a very steep hill. The deceleration on the downslope is triggering false hard braking events. Even if I slow down extremely gradually and drawn out, I'm fighting against gravity and Tesla's g...

    2021 Model S Plaid/LR Fire

That's simply not true. The windshield is significantly thicker and is affixed on all sides with adhesive. The side windows are thinner laminated glass, and more importantly frameless, only affixed on the bottom. Much easier to kick out than in.

    2020 Model XL rear-ended

Here's a photo of the third row seats. You can see that passenger heads are about where the back corner glass triangles are. I measured from the back of the third row seats to the outside back of the hatch is 24".

Glad everyone was ok. The third row seating starts after the rear storage well. How far past the well did the intrusion extend? Any idea how fast they were going when they hit you? We're you stopped?

Official Thread: Cybertruck (Cybrtrk) Event - Nov 21, 2019

This should have been setup as a SpaceX event, not a Tesla one, marketed as showing a sneak-peak of the Mars Rover they've designed. Talked it up about how its going to be used on Mars, the impressive specs, etc. The odd design in this context would be totally acceptable. Then, surprise reveal...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think Tesla missed an opportunity to better position this truck. What they should have done is unveil it as the SpaceX Mars Rover. Talked about its capabilities, plans for use on Mars. Showed it off a bit. Then, the surprise reveal - "We'll also sell you one." Many people might be put off...

My guess on the glass - it's only the front windshield that is the thickness used for the ball drop. Side glass is thinner to allow for them to roll down and up. Also should note that bulletproof glass always shatters like this when hit.

To the extent Porsche is sitting on better times (which from the article isn't clear that the Turbo S's limited duration performance boost would have made a difference over the non-S Turbo, but that aside), they would be holding back so as not to surpass their ICE cars. Note the Taycan's Ring...

The Audi S4 I sold for a Model S years ago had Audi's Sports Differential, which was an active rear diff that could torque vector between the rear wheels, including actively retrograding one side to induce rotation in the car, no brakes involved. On freeway entrance ramps and on the track it was...

Model S range and interior update imminent?

In crashes where doors jam, which is fairly common for vehicles with unibody construction because the "frame" is the body and when it flexes in a collision the doors get out of alignment, having a door handle to pull on isn't going to be enough to overcome metal jammed on metal. You're either...

Some observations on 2019.12 (AP 2.0)

This remains my biggest frustration with AP2.0. My Model S with AP1.0 does much better in these situations than my wife's Model X with AP2.0. AP1.0 switches to following the left lane marker when the lane suddenly goes wide, rather than centering itself.

    99 Tunnel in Seattle

One minor correction - it looks like Tesla switched navigation map providers to MapBox in 2017. The point still stands though on needing to wait for an update from Mapbox on the underlying map data and then Tesla downloading it to the fleet. Oh, and if you're wondering why you occasionally get...

    99 Tunnel in Seattle

While the map data displayed in the center console streams in live from Google, the maps used for navigation are locally downloaded and built by a navigation company (Navigon I believe). Tesla has to work with that third party to update the nav data and then push an update down to the fleet...

    Autosocks on Rear?

There's less clearance between the wheel and suspension components up front vs in back, hence the recommendation for chains on the rear tires only. The Autosocks are much thinner, but could still get caught up in the suspension up front. I only bought a pair for the rear in case we ever get...

My guess: The institutional buyers are back in the office, taking advantage of the low prices on offer after last week's predominantly short-driven trading. That would also suggest that the people manning the short seller trading desks have worse work-life balance than the long shops. I'm ok...

Ars Technica Expose About July Lawsuit

Wow. I feel like I need a shower after reading that. It astounds me that someone could be that shifty, time and time again. Tesla/SolarCity need to do a better job of weeding people out like this before hiring them. I can see now how Elon could call someone like Martin Tripp "a horrible...

Tesla paying the fine from their cash would reduce total stockholders' equity, i.e. the value of the company per share. This is dilutive, just on the other side of the equation. Shouldn't be dilutive. He's buying $20M in shares personally, on the open market, to counter the miniscule dilution created by Tesla corporation having to pay out $20M of shareholder's money to the SEC. If I recall correctly, the last two times Tesla had a profitable quarter, they preannounced, but it was several days after the end of the quarter.
