2016 Model S Refresh Mega-thread

I've been there before, had the last of the old version, when I could of waited a week and had the first of the new version. Takes the shine off for a while. I'm ready to go right now, just waiting on some news on the MS before I pull the trigger.
Would be nice to know what to expect for the Model S. Am currently considering a purchase, but it is too much money to see the value impacted by a hardware update. Other EVs and PHEVs have become available.

Take it with healthy skepticism but:

Headlights
Nose cone
Seats

Our MS will be 4years old next Jan. Reserved an M3 but might convert to a new MS if new features are good enough and differentiate from the 3. My wife requires (reasonably) that our next Tesla has adjustable upper seatbelt attachment points. The X has these. We also hope we might make the cut for the full autonamous hardware by this time next year.

I reserved a m3, but, if there is a significant refresh of the s, I would order one.
Aside from some of the items listed above like led headlights and vented seats, I am hoping Tesla adds/addresses the following:
- better sound insulation from front motor (maybe i would get used to it, but, i found it annoying)
- larger visors with built in lighting (i test drove at dusk driving westbound and wished it was a larger)
- front door pockets (i always carry my umbrella and a bottle of water)
- smaller rear seat headrests (i found rear view mirror visibility poor due to their height)
- better audio upgrade package (for $2500, i expected something much better)
- power lift gate is stock (for a premium car, should really be a stock item)

I think the new ones already have a smaller center rear headrest, look at pics in design center

Well, I've ordered my MS and paid the deposit. Confirmation is on the 15th.
I have a second test drive booked this Thursday in a P90D with Lud so I can get a feel and decide whether the massiv price increase is justifiable.
My delivery specialist made contact with me today (and helped organise the test drive). I asked about the rumoured price increase, and she said that they had delayed it due to the strain on the IT system following the M3 release. I'll take the technical explanation with a pinch of salt of course.
I did ask if there were any changes coming up and she said "hand on heart" that she's unaware of any equipment changes, just that the price is going up.
I'll see if I can get any more out of them on Thursday. I can still cancel of course on the hope that some changes do arrive.

If the price increase was 4%, that's a lot for a £100k+ car, but I'd probably stretch to it for the LED lights, vented seats (what does that mean exactly?) storage in the doors and maybe an increased 100kWh battery... If it's just a price increase which is what she's suggesting, it's a tough decision. I would probably just cancel and wait a month or two...

That been said the recent news of lower than expected delivery for Q1 2016 may increase the pressure to release new news to maintain healthy sales moving forward, so if really something is coming soon we should know in the next few weeks. I'm seriously considering ordering an X now to get in line (the car will fit most of my requirements) and revise if the refreshed S is getting better before I confirm.

Has there ever been a price hike w/o some goodies thrown in?

Yes, I believe in early 2014 there was a price hike without any significant changes other than things like parking sensors and folding mirrors, but as usual, they were added as incremental changes, not along with the price hike.

My July 2013 Inventory car was sold to me based on the old pricing when it was new, but if you spec'd out the identical car with identical options when I bought it (early 2014), the price was about $9000 higher. Which, depending on how you calculated it, making my Inventory car discount even that much better!

I have shifted the production for more than 4 month now. The car is going in production next week. I'm absolutely scared that i'm going to miss out.

I'm certain you won't. Enjoy your car!

There will always be "something new and better" just around the corner. It's like buying any technology... tech moves fast. Just jump in and enjoy the ride. Just means that you can upgrade that much sooner a few years down the road when you want to upgrade.

My 2013 P85+ doesn't have any of the following.. see me complaining about missing out?

  • Folding Mirrors
  • Parking Sensors
  • Fog Lights
  • Next-gen seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated side mirrors and heated windshield wipers
  • Autopilot/TACC/Self Parking/Summon
  • Insane mode
  • TPMS (individual tire readings)
  • Self closing charge port door
  • Dual Motors
  • Large sun visors
  • Hi-res instrument cluster
  • Swapped turn and cruise stalks
  • Standard Front console (not that I would want one!)
  • Much better fit and finish (compared to a friend's new S70)

Would I trade any of those for 2+ years of driving the best car in the world? Nope.

Would you trade any of those for 2-3 weeks of driving the best car in the world?
