Pretty much as expected..

TRITON ACE COMPETITION RESULT
The winning gridsquare was Q11 which nobody had claimed.
The nearest claimed square was P12 which proved to be a very popular choice with no less than 4 people claiming it.
So it's between @Jan @512uk @Davids2885 and @thelegalbeagle
The rule is that the person who chose the square first will be the winner
@thelegalbeagle chose the square on 31 Oct at 19:20 and so is declared the winner!
Bucketloads of admiration are winging their way to you which if you are a legal beagle I'm sure will be a novelty for you.

Now I know how Indiana Jones felt when he talked about fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and glory :)

If you are waiting for MODEL S or Model X

Although Model S and Model X are made in the same US factory as the Model 3 their delivery journey to you is markedly different.
Both Model S and X are shipped partly assembled in containers (3 to a container).
They are moved by road from Fremont to the Oakland Joint Intermodal Terminal where they are loaded on to a train.
The train then takes about 9 or more bone-rattling days to travel to Houston. (actually BNSF Pearland).

screenshot-2020-03-08-at-23-32-59-png.580023

The containers are then moved by road to the dock at Barbers Cut (webcams) where they are then loaded on to a scheduled container ship that eventually arrives 15 days later in Rotterdam (Note: Although the ships have a scheduled stop in Antwerp your containers are unloaded in Rotterdam).

The current shipping schedules show: Dep Houston Arr Rotterdam

MAERSK MONTANA 1/11 - 16/11

MAERSK HARTFORD 7/11 - 23/11

MAERSK IDAHO 15/11 - 30/11

MAERSK OHIO 22/11 - 7/12

SAFMARINE MAFADI 30/11 - 14/12

From Rotterdam the containers are moved by road (or barge) to Tilburg in Holland. Your car is removed from the container and then joins a mini production line where it is reassembled. It is then moved to Zeebrugge and shipped to Southampton.

As can be seen, all this takes time.

Finding your car in this complex logistics chain is difficult but there is a man who can. @Vedaprime is the specialist in this area. You can find him here but he normally resides on Twitter.

RCC ANTWERP arrived in Southampton Eastern Docks early this morning. She needed to load for her next trip which will be to Singapore & China via Bremerhaven. The trouble is her Tesla cargo was required in the Western Docks. She has now moved across to the Western docks and by now unloading will have commenced. The problem with this sort of operation is maintaining the ship’s trim especially for her next voyage to Bremerhaven. Last month when she was loaded at Pier 80 the cars for Southampton will have been loaded assuming that they would be the last to be unloaded. The plan for loading in Eastern docks would have assumed that the ship was empty. So a new plan will have had to be created probably involving lots of ballast. This is precisely the sort of situation that can lead to a HOEGH OSAKA incident if the crew are not vigilant. The good news is that I don’t think much will have been loaded this morning.

TRITON ACE continues to progress across the Atlantic at 17.8kts 900nm E of Bermuda
At midday she was N32.7 W46.5. This shows her about 150nm east of the normal route in an attempt to avoid the worst of the Atlantic weather tomorrow.
She will arrive in Zeebrugge on 20 Nov and Southampton on 22 Nov

I shall announce the winner of the TRITON ACE competition later today.

GRAND AURORA is attempting to keep clear of Tropical Storm Iota in the Caribbean.
This storm is intensifying rapidly and will soon become a full blown hurricane.

View attachment 608237

GRAND AURORA is heading for the Mona passage but is hugging the north coast of Colombia. This will keep her clear of the storms path and also put her on the less violent south side. Nevertheless, I’m sure the crew will have checked and rechecked the cargo lashings.
Her ETA for Zeebrugge is 24 Nov and I estimate she should arrive in Southampton on 26/27 Nov.

TOSCANA No update to her position has been received but I estimate she will progressing up the Red Sea
She will arrive in Zeebrugge on 27 Nov

GLOVIS CRYSTAL departed Pier 80 at 6:20pm local yesterday and is making good progress down the Pacific coast. Her ETA for Balboa is 01:00 23 Nov and so I estimate she will arrive in Zeebrugge on 5 Dec and Southampton a couple of days later.

TANNHAUSER is currently making 14 kts across the Bay of Bengal
At midday she was at N6.1 E92.9
She will arrive at Suez on 25 Nov and Zeebrugge of 6 Dec.

RCC AMSTERDAM At midday she was in the process of moving alongside Pier 80.
I can now announce that she will be coming to Europe!
I estimate she will arrive in Zeebrugge around 7 Dec

GLOVIS SUN will be coming to Pier 80 to load in the coming days however I suspect that she will be heading to Asia

There is still time for another shipment to Europe!……
However it looks as though there could be possibly 2 more shipments.
I am fairly sure one will be GLOVIS CAPTAIN arriving in Zeebrugge around 14 Dec
I have yet to identify the second ship but another arriving just before Christmas may be on the cards. If so, this is really late and it will pose a real challenge for all these cars to be delivered in Q4

Nevertheless it looks like the Q4 deliveries to Europe are on track to break the record.
Big thumbs up on the RCC/Hoegh Amsterdam coming to Europe information! I cannot find it through my sources, but I trust that you have a solid source on it. Happy to see more than 10 ships this quarter, I was fearing it would only be 10.

Thank you so much for this information mr m. It has saved me hours of trawling through posts and forums.

TRITON ACE continues to progress across the Atlantic at 18.8kts 410nm SW of the Azores.
At midday she was N36.0 W38.6 Her course is keeping her clear of some bad weather to the west.
There is still some poor weather ahead but she should be OK for the next 48 hrs or so.
She will arrive in Zeebrugge on 20 Nov and Southampton on 22 Nov

Triton Ace Atlantic Progress.png

GRAND AURORA
has about 150nm to run until the Mona Passage.
The Mona Passage is the gap between the Dominican Republic to the west and Puerto Rico to the east.
On the Atlantic side lies the Puerto Rico Trench which is about 8000m deep whereas in the passage it's only about 100m deep.
On the Caribbean side it's about 1000m deep. Additionally, there is a significant current that runs from south to north.
This 'shallowness' in the passage can be responsible for some pretty treacherous seas with some horrendously big waves.
It's not something that is too much of a concern for big ships but for smaller vessels the 'dreaded' Mona Passage has a fearsome reputation and navigating it is something that needs careful advanced planning and respect.
It is also the site of a significant British victory in 1782 when British and French warships engaged there.
The weather looks OK.
Her ETA for Zeebrugge is 24 Nov and I estimate she should arrive in Southampton on 26/27 Nov.

TOSCANA No update to her position has been received.
She will arrive at Suez tomorrow evening if her progress to date continues.
The weather in her area continues to look fine.
She is due to arrive in Zeebrugge on 27 Nov

GLOVIS CRYSTAL continues to make good progress southwards off the coast of the Baja California peninsula.
Her ETA for Balboa is 01:00 23 Nov and so I estimate she will arrive in Zeebrugge on 5 Dec and Southampton a couple of days later.

With GLOVIS CRYSTAL on her way to Europe it must be time to launch the imaginatively named...

GLOVIS CRYSTAL COMPETITION

All you have to do is use your skill and judgement to decide which gridquare GLOVIS CRYSTAL will be located in at midday Z on 28 Nov 20.
There is no galaxy of fabulous prizes to be won. No caravan, no fondue set not even a set of monogrammed tyre levers . Nada, zilch.
Only 1 entry per person
In the event of a tie, the person who chose the closest gridsquare first will be declared the winner.
Entries will close when GLOVIS CRYSTAL enters the Panama Canal.

Sorry if it has been answered before but why arent the S/X put on RoRos like the 3s ?
The answer is that the Model S & X are imported into the EU as car parts and are re-assembled in Tilburg. Ask a tax expert on the benefits of that.
The sheer quantity of Model 3's being imported into Europe makes the reassembly impractical and it's only a comparatively short term measure until Berlin GF is up and running.

Unloading is generally quicker but it very much depends on how many stevedores are thrown at it. Additionally, if the cars have to drive further than the immediate area of the ship to be parked that will add time too. Since the ship was running well behind schedule I am sure no expense was spared to minimise her time alongside. She is currently doing 20+kts on her way to Bremerhaven to ensure she gets there on time.

Has she dropped off all European Teslas by now and dropping off / picking up other things in Bremerhafen or is she still carrying Teslas for the central / south European markets?
