2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

Is any of the range and acceleration improvements noted for the 2021 model going to be dripped to the existing model 3 AWD cars with OTA updates or are these improvements results in hardware changes to battery and or drive train?
Range increase is supposedly due to some sort of "efficiency package". Tesla hasn't explained what that is exactly. My guess is current models will be upgradable. I just find it interesting that certain models like Performance Model 3 gets a minor increase (16 miles) while other models like the Performance Model S gets a significant increase (40 miles). Also strange that the Long Range and Standard Model S are not getting any increase at all.

No, because the car is more efficient at handling heating/cooling with the heat pump and Octovalve. Not to mention they will use the heat pump to heat the battery when it is cold instead of using the motors less efficiently. So even if you aren't using the heat, the car still is.
I'm curious how much of an improvement in terms of range we'll see with the heat pump

Tesla will not let cars consume more electricity if the customer doesn't pay. So "upgradeable" must be a software-locked battery.

My delivery specialist confirmed that the 2020 models still floating around will be discounted, but she didn't know how much of a discount yet. For those of us with orders pending...how much of a discount would it take for you to accept the 2020 model rather than the 2021?
Personally I’d rather a rebate but it would take $5,000 at least. Give me back my down payment and we’ll be good. I’m probably way out of line but otherwise I’ll just keep waiting for the new one.

I’d consider it for $5,000 - I’d like the new things but nothing earth shattering other than the range. The main consideration might be resale value but TBH, I’m planning on holding on to the car for a while anyway.

Given that I live in the Northeast with no home charging (only a L2 at work and superchargers) the heat pump and extended range would make me feel much better in the winter. With that said, I pulled the trigger not knowing I would have the option for any of this so I’m prepared to not have it and I can wrap the center console and chrome delete myself. If they want to force inventory through at a discount I’d consider it, because like you said not much of it is earth shattering

I wonder how about the orders placed before they officially announced M3 refresh when the 7 days return policy was still active. Would they still be eligible, or not if receiving the refreshed model?

Tesla has told people that they are honoring the return policy on orders placed prior to today. But starting for orders placed today, no return policy.
