2021 Model Y Sideview Mirrors Limited Adjustability

We picked up our Model Y on 12.10.2020. Everything was perfect with the delivery EXCEPT the drivers sideview mirror. I was adjusting it at Tesla and couldn't quite get it right. I figured I needed to play around more with the seat setting and mirrors on the road. Basically I need the drivers sideview mirror to be tilted more out and up. I was going crazy because the passenger side was fine and I've never been in a car where I can't get the mirrors right. As it stands right now I have a huge blindspot - I can either have it tilted in and up so the side of my car takes up half view out of the mirror or down and out so all I can see is the asphalt.

I called Tesla and reported the problem. They called me back about an hour later and said that it is a known issue and they are working on it. It has something to do with the Auto-dimming feature on the 2021's and how that has reduced the range of motion that the mirror can be adjusted. My delivery specialist said it might be able to be fixed through software update??

This issue does not seem like it will effect everyone - my wife is 5'3" and has no problem (I'm 6'5"). We also have an S and I I have no problem with that.

Anyone else experiencing this? or have any additional info?

Same exact issue. I took delivery about a week ago. Everything on my Model Y was pretty much perfect at delivery, except for the driver-side mirror. When I tried to adjust it, it would not move out far enough to check blindspots. I don't want to see the side of my car in the mirrors. I've always driven with them far out so I can glance and make sure no one is in my blindspot. It adjusts really far in but who wants to see the inside of their car with the side mirror? I do have the auto-dimming mirrors, and I saw on a Reddit thread that other people have experienced this so it might be related to that. I'm 6'0'' tall for reference.

I had mobile service come out and originally they said "everything looks fine" but I met them outside and explained my issue and how I felt it was a safety issue. They agreed to come out again in the next couple weeks, but they didn't explain whether there was a new mirror assembly or anything. They said they would come out, try a couple more things, and then replace the mirror if that didn't fix the problem. Hopefully they've changed the mirror design or have been to fix it with software.

Yes, that’s exactly my issue. It’s a definite safety issue, especially at night. I was originally told to have mobile service come out and take a look but when they called me back I was told to hold off having them come out and that they would be in touch in the coming weeks. With the big end of year push for deliveries I would imagine this will only become a bigger problem.

I’ll post an update when they contact me again.

Have you tried just manually pushing the mirror into position? Does it adjust 'too far' in the other direction?
Yes, I tried applying a modest amount of pressure but that puppy isn’t budging. The motor that drives the mirror never stops. So when the mirror is all the way out or in as far as it goes the motor never stops ‘humming’ along even though the mirror has stopped moving.

Compared to my MS when the mirror is adjusted as far as it will go the motor that adjusts the mirror shuts off.

Same issue. I, also, am 6' 5". The drivers mirror is definitely an issue. It wasn't as bad or noticeable on test drive pre-auto dimming mirrors. My 827XX is an issue. I find myself really straining to see traffic on drivers side. I will report the issue as well. It's a problem.

I picked up last night (79XXX with auto-dimming mirrors). I'm 6'1" and can barely get the driver's side mirror in an acceptable position. It's maxed out and hitting a physical limit (even when pushing on it manually, which the delivery advisor tried) at the top and left. Passenger side seems basically okay.

It works . . . just barely . . . but if I were any taller or preferred a higher seating position it wouldn't.

Same issue here with my 80XXX vin picked up Dec 12th. I was actually wondering if it was a build issue I missed at delivery. Kind of good to know it's not just me in a weird way. I hope it's just a software fix but I kind of doubt it the way it behaves when you try to go further.

Also, I'm only 5' 9" don't keep the seat up very high at all. So it's not just the taller folks with the issue.
