So I found some nice 20x9 wheels planning on having them square and I've heard mixed answered that they can fit on 235/35/20 (not trying to buy new tires, about to spend 3k for coilovers lol).

Would it stretch out the tires a lot on the 235? Any cons?

Some say the tires wear faster and you are more susceptible to sidewall puncture by exposing more of the sidewall. Also less protection from potholes and curbrash.

The Tesla size 235/35/20 MPS 4S is actually a bit wider then most 235 wide tires and you should be fine on a 9” wide wheel.

How do you know which tires are a bit wider then others while on the same spec?

Yea, potholes and curbrash are my main concern as they are quite expose.

Once my tires wear out I might get 245/35/20 or 245/45/20. I'm curious why Tesla didn't get with 245 considering that they are wider, wouldn't it be better overall for the car?

What benefit would it be to go from 245/35 to 245/45? I hear some people want 45 so there's less gap. Would I not need rear camber arms if I don't plan on lowering my car more than 1" as the 45 would help close the gap a bit more?

Go to Tirerack and if you click on the specs of the tire it will tell you what the tread width is. The Tesla acoustic tire in 235/35/20 is 8.8” wide versus the regular 235/35/20 MPS 4S which is 8.5” wide. Looks like the MPS 4S tire is recommended for rims between 8-9.5” wide.

I’m using a 255/35/20 on a 20x9” wheel. No clearance issues and with a drop of 1.5” on my MPP coilovers it is about two fingers or 1.25” of a gap on the 255/35/20 tire. I have MPP front and rear arms for adjustments, so I can go as low or high without uneven tire wear. 1” drop shouldn’t need arms.

Enough with the supply/demand talk about carbon rims. Let's see some pics!! I'll start...

Can finally post up my reveal. WedsSport SA20R rims (20x9.5 et38) with 3mm [F] / 5mm [R] spacers. Looks like I have a bit of room to go 5/10mm spacers; just need to find 10mm spacers that fit M14 studs. Wrapped in the OEM Michelin PS4S tires in 235/35R20 variant. Bit of a stretched look but I've always like stretch on "rounder" bodied cars. Car is also (freshly) lowered on T-Sportline springs (1.0" F / 1.2" R). Vinyl wrap and tint details in my signature.

As I mentioned before, I had to drill (ream) out the wheels from an M12 stud fitment to fit onto our M14 studs. I chose these because (1) they're sub-23 lbs each (vs 28-ish lbs on the OEM 20s); and (2) no one else has done Weds (that I know of anyway) on any Model 3s yet!

Anyway, onto the photos (impromptu phone camera photoshoot on my way home from picking up the car from the shop):

Has anybody else done 20x9 on 235's? This doesn't look as bad as the ones posted on Anybody have 20x9 on 235/35/20?
