Part of it was Tesla's Fault and Part was the people fault. Tesla Model S and Model X was a high class luxury line with all the bell and whistle.

People starting to have set expectation and sensory "adaptation" to what they see and failed to realize these vehicles are twice the price of a Model 3 to begin with. To set the price point of 35K and being a highly advanced technology car, things have to give.

So when the price started to be 35k, people had high expectation of it seeing the 15" LCD screen, they start dreaming of this could be the BMW or Mercedes they never had or replacement of it. Failed to realize this is no better than a Toyota Corolla / Camry comparison at best.

They see the price point and failed to see the whole Total Rewards differences. I see people comparing it to a BMW 3 Series price point or a fully Equipped Toyota Camry price point. While the sticker price might put them in that league, the total reward is not....

For example: A typical driver would drive 13k to 15k per year. For a BMW or Lexus, you would look at the average price of $2.90 - $3.20 gas per gallon and total cost of approx $2000 - $3000 per year. You factor in maintenance cost of oil change at $70 - $100 each time for Synthetic. You factor in break pad wear and tear at higher rate. Etc. Now your 35k BMW actual cost of Ownership is fairly high when compared to the Cost of Ownership of a Model 3 with Tax Incentive.

If you factor all that in with the total cost of ownership, tax incentive, etc, the price point of a Model 3 is really comparable to a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. Now if you look at design, quality, craftmanship, etc. Model 3 is by far superior.

All of that is what most people don't see and by knee jerk reaction they cry and get disappointed.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Electric Vehicle is a lifestyle adjustment NOT everyone is capable or ready for at the moment. They just see it is cool and hip without properly factoring everything around it.

Going from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on an ICE would typically take you 3.5 - 4 hours. Now in an EV like a Tesla, you are looking at 4.0 hrs - 4.5 hours due to shorter distance per charge and more time spent per charge. You are going to spend on average 20% - 50% longer than usual at each stop. You are going to stop 30% - 60% more frequent than before. You are going to drive more conservatively than before due to drain in battery. You are going to think, plan, re-think, plan, before you step into the car and drive. It is a lifestyle change, period.

You need to be open minded to all of these facts and be capable to adjust to all of these lifestyle differences. You are no longer going to step into a car blindly, drive, and a gas station is going to be at every corner you can simply stop and fuel up.
